Has anyone tried using daisy-chaining for their IR-receiver on a tuner card?

I have a Leadtek Winfast TV2000XP-Expert, and was wondering if, instead of using the cheesy little IR-receiver that comes with the card, I can run a cable from the Harmon-Kardan receiver IR-Out to the Leadtek card instead (i.e. just use the built-in IR on the HK)?

I have seen some posts that these IR ports are a little fragile (many reports of frying the IR-port by plugging in the IR-receiver when the PC is on...), so I hesitate to just plug it in and try it.

Even if it doesn't harm it, is it likely to work, or are these intended only for hooking up equipment from the same manufacturer, and hence the HK will only pick up certain frequencies? I do recall that I hooked up the IR-out from one of those radio-shack pyramids to the IR-in on an older stereo receiver and it worked...

I would not hardwire this.

Goto www.smarthome.com and look for a device called IRLinc. It will optically connect the 2. But you assuming that the IR out on the receiver will send all IR commands or IR commands at all instead of their own protocol. Oh well, it will be a $20 experiment.
