I think you have to download some extra drivers for the ATI software...
Look here:

Yes I know,... so download the Generic Remote control Interface from that page:
http://www.ati.com/na/pages/resource_centre/dev_rel/genremctl.zip
and follow the instructions there, then the exported group will work.

Hi Ron-
Thanks for sticking with me! I need to be led by the hand...or maybe by the nose.
OK, I downloaded the file you pointed me towards, and also read the accompanying text document. It tells me I need to register by executing this <windir>system32regsvr32.exe genremctl.dll What is meant by "execute"?; is this a DOS command? My OS is Windows ME. Can I simply drag and drop the dll file into the drivers folder under system32?
just open an explorer window and point it to the C:windowssystem32 and find regsvr32.exe in this folder. Then click on 'Run...' in the start menu (I hope that's what it is call in english windows, I'm on German W2k here). Drag regsvr32.exe from the explorer window to the run-box. Add a space after the ...regsvr32.exe in the runbox. Find genremctl.dll. It's probably in the same folder as regsvr32.exe. Drag it to the run-box, hit Ok. Now everything should be fine.
As I don't have WinME, but an old Win98 where regsvr32.exe is placed in C:windowssystem instead of ...system32. This might be the same for WinME. So you look there too.

First attempt at using Girder, my goal is simply to control the ATI DVD player with my Pronto remote. I downloaded and installed the appropriate GXR file. Since my IRman hasn't arrived yet, I'm using the keyboard option with Girder. The command to launch the player works (I can see the window pointing to the EXE file). Other commands don't work. The "send message 1.51" plugin is displayed, and when using the "test command" selection the highlighted command blinks...but the DVD player doesn't obey the command. What now?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the response. I realize my posting isn't entirely clear. The ATI player works very well as long as I'm using mouse clicks to control it. But I can't get Girder to work with it.

The document mentions "a moderate level of technical competence" for Windows Programming. Sorry, but that leaves me out.

Thanks Ron and Ingo, progress is being made, but the goal not yet attained!
Following Ingo's directions, I received a message that my efforts to execute the genremctl.dll file "succeeded". After rebooting just in case, using the test command choice still fails to get a response out of the DVD player.
Just to be as complete as possible, here's an example:
Highlight the "pause" command under the ATI group in the tree directory. Click on Target to check settings there. The series of windows in the lower right of the target box read, from top to bottom as follows:
NAME DVD
CLASS ATI Panel
EXECUTABLE ATIMMC.EXE
CHILD NAME ActiveMovie Window
CHILD CLASS VideoRenderer
This looks ok to me so far.
Clicking on Find Matches to Current Criteria shows "2860 Target Selector TForm2"
Returning to the main Girder screen, the message "Girder Enabled" shows on the red window.
This looks like everything is in order, but when the "test command" selection is made (we're on "pause" remember), the DVD player keeps right on rolling.
Any further suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I've got Girder working with IRman now, thanks to help from this forum and the AVS HTPC forum. Once I installed the genremctrl dll my setup still didn't work. So I started over completely, purging my computer of all traces of Girder and reinstalling it.
Now it works, thanks to all, but I'm no smarter about what was wrong the first time. As it's said, "It's better to be lucky than good."
Thanks again for the help.
