IrDA is a standard for infrared communication between computer-like devices. This uses a different wavelength then the remote controls do.
UIR is a universal infrared receiver it will
read almost anything that a remote will send at it (excluding some B&O remotes). UIR is specially designed for the remote reception task. IrDA is not.
Also IrDA is not supported, if it works be happy if not, don't be sad that was expected.

Yes the IRman or the UIR (pratically the same device) are pretty good.

Hello everybody,
I'am using a Portable IBM thinkpad T21 with a transceiver IBM SC-20H2987 and i can't arrive to use Girder...
In the hardware setting, I have configure the IrDA driver on the good com port.
When i enable the driver, the GREEN light of girder is set and Girder report that the driver is enable. But when i try to send a string whith any remote, the light of girder stay green and nothing happened.
I have tried different configurations,
-Windows 2000 with COMM2K
-Win 98 with the two lines to add in msports.inf
-at different speed 9800, 115000
-The driver of my IR hardware is well set and my computer can communicate with my phone
I don't know what could happened..
Thanks a lot for any help...
Cheers,
Lynx
P.S could you explain me the difference between UIR and IrDA.

Hi,
Thanks for this really quick answer...
So you think that on my IBM, the hardware is an IrDA and not an UIR...
So if i would like to do something with this computer... i have to developpe my own driver
No in fact it was a test and i think that i will get the IRMAN from Evation..
Do you think it is a good choice ?
See you
