Hi guys,
This is my first post here in the girder forums :)
Ok, let’s get down to business (I was joking about the whole quick question bit)… :D
I have an xcard which has a faulty IR receiver, not accepting any of the remote control inputs. The IR has an led which usually flashes upon transmission. It now no longer does that, so I guess it’s busted. Now, I purchased a Nebula DVB-T card which works a treat and the remote control (universal) “one for all” urc-7544 does the job quite nicely. I am going to setup a HTPC which has both the realmagic xcard and nebula digitv card. Now here is where my situation may get a little difficult to choose the path to go down. I either:
1. Buy a replacement remote package (serial IR receiver and remote) for the xcard, which I already have the remote for > Problem solved and I would have two of the same remote.
2. Buy an IRman or USB UIRT for JovePlayer (native support) which is an alternative front end for the xcard > partially solved (don’t know the side effects, if any).
3. Buy an IRman/USB UIRT/IRA or TIRA with girder (then control it all within girder) > partially solved (need to learn girder).
The IRman does appear to be a good alternative, can purchase here in OZ, and cheaper than IRA and TIRA. USB UIRT is the most expensive option for me. Not really keen on spending $55 USD + $20 USD shipping to Australia. Turns out to be ~$105. Where the IRman is $55 AUD + shipping which is about ~$5-$10 AUD max. Downside of IRman is DB9 where USB is a better option based purely on speed.
Another question, does the nebula dvb-t card’s IR receiver have support from within girder? Could I use that IR receiver to accept the xcard’s remote code?
If you experienced could help me make this decision easier it would be greatly appreciated. Just new to the whole PC IR world and girder.
I guess at the end of the day, I want to use one or two remotes at most for my HTPC setup. Girder seems the go. I would love to be able to control winamp as well as the pc in general just from a remote control.
Thanks guys…
Cheers,
dvine
