I've used Girder with ATI MMC 7.1, and I had no problems. Could the problem be somewhere else? Did you download the genremctl.dll, and register it? Have you tried the latest exported groups for Girder?

so I eagerly downloaded the new ATI MMC 7.2 from ATI in hopes that it would work with Girder unlike the 7.1, but the new software still has the same old 7.1 tv player! =( while it does now work properly in XP when I pause/rewind live tv (the old one would play audio but no video), it still doesnt work with girder. whenever the tv player is running, girder and winlirc completely stop responding to all keypresses.
wtf! I doubt ATI will be putting out another MMC version for a long time if ever.

What version of windows are you running?
What remote are you using also?
I have the packard bell fast media remote and am running WinLIRC to get the commands from the remote and then your config files for the ATI, everythign works (DVD etc) except ATI TV 7.1
Any tips?
Thanks!
