Will there be an upload area on the server where we can upload CCFs and GMLs? I'd love that, since my webserver only accepts pictures, no zip-files or other types. So can this be our CCF/GML storage?

You bet. In the next couple of weeks I'll have this available as part of a better organized site.

Just wanted to "second" this suggestion - a repository for CCFs and GMLs would be fantastic!

Ben,

Are you doing okay for space/bandwidth for this site? I don't want your success hitting you in the poacket!!

The area will be available soon. I'm having a friend who has some spare cycles do some work on a new site (using WingNut (http://www.webwingnut.org)). We'll see what he comes up with.

In terms of space/bandwidth, I'm okay. This server has plenty of room on it, and it's in a cage that I have several servers in that have 100 gigs transfer a month for the cage. We've hit 1 gig for NetRemote so far this month.

Thanks for thinking of me!

You've probably noticed the redesigned site.

Among the improvements, there is now an upload area. You must have be a member for 10+ days, and posted 10+ messages in order to have the ability to upload files.

There is a link at the bottom of the download page to user uploaded files. If you want to upload, you can login using your forum username and password.

It's pretty simple right now, so if it doesn't behave as specified, or if there is another file type you want to add a lot of, let me know.

Ben - I have not been able to find the upload/download links that you describe.

Where are they exactly? How do we use them?

If you click the NetRemote icon in the upper left, you'll be taken to the new NetRemote homepage. Select "Download", and you'll see the normal download page. There is a link at the bottom to see user uploads. From user uploads, you can login and add a new file.

Thanks very much Ben!
I was looking on the forum page for an upload button :(

Carl, I tried to open the zip file posted, and it's giving me a bad crc error. Can you rezip and send it to me via email and I will drop into the current drop area?

Also, the skin references graphics which were not included. Did you want to include them?

Thanks!

Carl,

I'm still getting the crc-error :-( This ia spooky problem...

I am also still getting the crc error. I wonder if it's something to do with the size of the file.

I'd like to keep the user upload/downloads to less than a meg (zipped), if possible. There have been 24 downloads of Carl's ccf (for a total of 78179K) versus 241 downloads of NetRemote Win32 0.98 (for a total of 80495K). Ouch!

Carl, is it possible to make a demo version of your ccf with less remotes for people to download? I took some of the backgrounds out and shrunk it from 4.4 megs to 2.4 megs. If we could get it zipped to less than a meg, I'd be a happy camper.

Ben - I will do. I downloaded the zip from the site and had no probelm with it... strange. I did forget the graphics in the skins... more or less on purpose... but will include it in the one I email.... U R the BEST -Carl

I have noticed some cases where PHP has problems downloading binary files. Could it be stripping the file?

No harm done. I'd just prefer to have them smaller. I have them in my inbox. I'll see if I can unzip them, and put them up.

here's a tip that worked for me

right click -> Extract to Folder (whatever)

Winzip will error at this point...before clicking anything in Winzip, go to the folder you are unzipping to and you will see the CCF file...move it out of that folder to somwhere else...then continue with the rest of the files

copy it back to wherever you want and it should work...worked for me anyway

A lot of people are interested in your demo ccf, Carl! Wow!

I repackaged the zip file, and made the following changes:

* Converted .bmp in skin to .gif's.
* Called it your "demo" ccf
* Removed all but receiver remotes.
* Removed all background images.

The .ccf is now 980k, and the whole package is 880k zipped. I hope you're okay with these changes.

No problem Ben. Glad that you were able to get it smaller....

I will download it and check it out, I'd like to see your work...LOL
