Seems like this would be a GREAT thing to support. Solves the issue of power supply, seems portable, no need to open the PC up, etc.
I vote yes, how 'bout you?

I agree, it certainly seems to solve a lot of the issues with the current UIRT, as well as being much less expensive than the slinke.
Dave T. is the brains behind NRIRServ right now, and he mentioned on AVSForum that he's contacted Jon about getting a unit, so I'm guessing the NRIRServ driver won't be too far off.

Really looking forward to pass-through IR at a reasonable price. That will make my current purchases and investment of time pay off. -Carl

Jon Rhees has told me that the USB UIRT will have a -very- simple to use .dll that will allow us to send IR data directly to it, circumventing the need to write at the device level.
This should make supporting the USB UIRT a complete breeze.

Thanks for a wonderful piece of software... :D
I have been playing with NetRemote for a few weeks now waiting for a way to control my AV equipment.
I got USB-UIRT yesterday and after a quick install process, was able to teach girder IR for my TV and test it out successfully!
How soon do you plan to roll USB-UIRT IR passthrough in NetRemote. If it is soon enough I won't bother to get NetRemote working with USB-UIRT through girder.

Sorry Shyam. I don't know how I missed this message. I would say I'm still at least 2 wks - 30 days out on this.

Any news. Got my USB-UIRT working great. Would love to try it with NetRemote.

Jon Rhees has sent Dave and I the newest library for the unit, and Jon is (I believe) sending an eval unit to Dave to support.
Dave is going to write the NRIRServer driver for it so I can continue to focus on NetRemote as a whole.

Sounds great. Thanks for the update.
And so far, the USB-UIRT is really great. Very solid, with no problems at all.

I too have a usb-uirt... I have gotten net remote to open notepad.exe through girder. What i'd really like to do is control my tv, projector, reciever, lights and other ir devices... Can some one tell me in the plainest of terms how to turn my tv on and off? That would really help getting me started!
Thanks,
Chris

For those brave souls out there --
A test version of the NetRemote USB-UIRT plugin is available. Anyone interested?

I've given the plugin out to about 2 dozen people but haven't heard anything back yet. That could be good or bad...

Hopefully that means it's good.
I'd like to implement some of the changes you've suggested, as well, Jon.
These are the 3 things I'd like to change, #2 being the thing you said you'd like for better IR calls.
1) Connection to NRIRServ stays alive
2) Button down / Button up events
3) A parameter passed from the ccf. This is for slinke users to specify which port they'd like to fire the infrared through. Do you have a use for a parameter, as well?
Can't wait to hear what the two dozen people have to say.
Thanks Jon!

My guess is that it's good, yes. Everybody likes to complain when something is wrong, only a few bother to commend when something is right. 8)

I got the beta but have not had time to test it. I am hoping to get caught up this weekend.
Been a tough week.

I can probably make use of the parameter -- a future version of the USB-UIRT driver will support multiple USB-UIRT's on a single box. :)

What DLL to put in the NetRemote directory for USB-UIRT?

Anyone?
Someone has had to install this and get it working?
Ben S

Aaron - You should put the nrir_ dll in the NRIRServ directory, it should not go in the NetRemote directory.
Jon - has anyone given you thumbs up or thumbs down on the new driver?

Hi all,
Just wanted to apologize for not testing. My portable died and I've got no way to test right now. Ugh!
So, I'll test as soon as I get a new one/ fix it.

I received the beta and tried to get it working but am not confident what file goes where. A step by step setup would be really helpfull.
Thanks

So far so good... I have the USB-UIRT approx 15' from my main IR receiver and it it is working so far. This is only very basic testing so I will report back after more testing is complete.

I spoke too soon!
I pushed a few buttons several times consecutively (probably 10 or so) and now for the past 15 minutes the UIRT has been sending signals to the system, changing everything all around. Even rebooting the computer the UIRT is connected to did not stop it!
Also, the NRIRservlog is not being created in the C:\

Still exhibits the "repeat" problem. It repeats commands over and over even if a button is only pressed a few times. It takes unplugging the UIRT from the PC to get it to stop. This does not always happen but if I press a button or a few, very quickly I can reproduce this at will.
There seems to be a few second delay from button push to sending the signal out the UIRT.
So here are the current issues I'm having:
1) signal repeat continuously until power-down of UIRT
2) long delay in signal sent out UIRT
3) NRIRserv logging (check box in setup) not creating file in C:\

Hi Aaron,
I'm going to let Jon chime in on issues 1 and 2, as I do not yet have a USB-UIRT. I am considering selling my slinke since I just took my Sony 200 disc off my rack (no need with a PC with 200+ digitized albums), so don't need the slinke support any longer.
On issue 3, I'm going to look into NRIRServ again to resolve any outstanding bugs, as well as to implement a keep-alive connecting between NetRemote and it. Latency in initiating a connection may cause any number of strange happenings with the IR transmission.

Cool... let me know if you need a beta tester for it.

Aaron,
Could you try running NetRemote on the same computer as where you're running the NRIRServ and report back if this affects the repeat and/or latency issues?
Thanks,
Jon
Aaron

Jon, I actually have been running NR on the same machine as NRIRserv. Actually the latency issue is gone after the RC6 upgrade.
I found can duplicate the "repeat" issue and it is one button causing it!
Insert this IR code into your button and it will reproduce the problem:
0000 0072 0006 0000 0020 0020 0020 0020 0041 0020 0020 0041 0020 0020 0041 0041

Aaron,
Could I ask you to email your entire ccf (the one you load into NetRemote) to me at uirtsupport@earthlink.net?
Thanks!

Sure... but I did narrow it doen to that one command is the only one that causes the problem. Emailing to you now.

I do not have a USB-UIRT but am definately going to get one once all of this is figured out. I do have a question though-
would it be possible to set up girder to recieve the incoming command from Netremote, amd then have the USB-UIRT send the appropriate IR out command?
I am under the impression that this is how the USB-UIRT works normally. Why would it be different if Girder recieves a command from Netremote?
I don't really know what NRIRserv is. Is it just so that you don't have to use Girder?
Ben S
June 27th, 2003, 09:16 PM
Dkan - That's right. Girder would be used if you learn the IR via Girder, and associate an IR command with a Girder command. NetRemote would then call a Girder command (which would then fire the IR).
Using NRIRServer, NetRemote sends any values it sees as IR codes directly to NRIRServer, NRIRServer pumps it directly out. This means you don't need to set up a girder command for each IR code.
dkan24
June 28th, 2003, 10:01 AM
okay, so it can be done via girder, but NRIRServer would probably be a lot easier.
I have a Pronto, so learning IR is already done, but I am curious- without a Pronto, how would you be able to learn codes to then put into your ccf?
It looks like I will be buying a USB-UIRT. It looks like they are a little backed-up, but I will get the driver as soon as I can and test it out.

Is this sort of stopped in its tracks? I have purchased a USB UIRT and have a pronto that I use. I NEED THIS FUNCTIONALITY.....PLEEEAAASSSEEEE!!!
I am dying to be able to use my Pronto CCF and those on Remote central. This will blow the doors off of net remote.
Any ETA?
Thanks
