Host Name Support

Do you think its possible to have the configuration screen where you enter the IP addresses for the Girder and Media Jukebox servers to also handle DNS and Windows machine names?

My network is configured by DHCP, and it would be more convenient to be able to set the configuration via name than IP address.

SD - Ype that's a popular request. Once thing though, if you use wireless, you probably don't want to make the PocketPC a DHCP client - the negotiation adds a second or so to the startup time of device.

Since you are adding this, are you also adding the option that I asked for prior so that I can switch to control a different netremote server on the fly?

Not yet. I still haven't finished fleshing out the multiple instances of drivers issue.

I -could- add a button to change the host of MJB or Girder on the fly (to the value of the IR name), if that would make this work for you.

That's not needed, take your time in implimenting it, I was just wondering if it was in the next release.

Ideally, I would like to launch NetRemote on the PPC and on the main screen choose which server I would want to control, I do not know if that would make it easier for you to impliment, but if you have any other thoughts on how it could be done, I am all ears.

Jim,

you could have netremote connect to one girder-server and have girder communicate with some other girder-instance on another computer. You'd need the internet-event server and client plugins enabled in Girder for that to work.

I haven't noticed any slowdown or anything so the only disadvantage should be that it[s somewhat cumbersome and it needs the girder-server that netremote connects to allways to be on.
