View Full Version : But if Girder supports USB-UIRT...???

I've noticed that support for USB-UIRT is "coming soon", but if there's a USB-UIRT plug-in for Girder, and there's a NetRemote plug-in for Girder, shouldn't it just work?

Elvis - the experts can answet better than I, but I believe that support for USB-IRT means for passthrough of IR directly from NetRemote... just press the button with the dirver installed, aht the IR fromt he DDF comes out of the UIRT....

Carl - is correct. I was never a pronto user, (and don't use existing pronto files) so I don't need pass-thru. I am up and running now with NR, Girder and a USB-UIRT!!

Yes, there is no problem using a USB-UIRT (or any other Girder Plugin) from netRemote via Girder. However, with the NRIRServer, you can eliminate Girder, Girder programming, the need to teach Girder the IR commands - it simply passes IR commands from the CCF to the IR transmitter. Much easier for people who want a simple setup or use existing CCF without the necessity to chnage the CCF to NetRemote buttons, set up a GML file, learn all the codes etc.

Thanks, guys. :)
Is there a delay (between keypress and code transmission by the IR emitter) associated with using Girder as "the middleman"? If so, will the NRIRServer : USB-UIRT interface reduce this substantially?
I've been concerned about this all along - especially with repeating keys - If there's a delay, it will be pure HELL trying to calibrate/converge my NEC CRT projector... SO MANY SETTINGS - SO MUCH TIME!

There is no noticeable delay between pressing a button in NetRemote and Girder firing off a command. With repeating keys (held keypress) you have to adjust your antirepeat times in Girder to prevent commands from the NetRemote from piling up in Girder; alternatively, I use the Button Mode plugin which seems a bit smoother.
There is a delay between taking a sleeping PPC device and when NetRemote can send its first command though - this is due to the time (~5-8 seconds) required for the Wifi card to establish a connection with it's WAP.

Yeah, I read about that in the other thread, and I have a solution of sorts (I think.) I'll post it to the appropriate thread, though.

NRIRServ introduces no perceptable delay, either. As soon as I press a button, it's doing whatever I told it to do.
Button repeat -is- something that Dave T. and I collectively have to tweak to get it right, however.
Right now button repeat is -correct- turning the lights up bit by bit on my Grafik Eye, but doesn't repeat -at all- turning the lights -down- bit by bit. Weird.
