Hi, I've just been handed an IPAQ (for free - nice) but its a 3630 with the old operating system. What do i have to do to upgrade it to 2002 ? I am in the UK if that makes a difference.
Thanks for any help
Chris :)

I am pretty sure that Ben has a version on the web site that is compiled for the processor in the Ipaq. You shouldn't have to upgrade (if you even can) to PPC2002. HTH-Carl

If you want to get PocketPC 2000 (and feel adventurous) - the simplest thing is to get the latest Wince 3.0 firmware update, and the latest PocketPC 2002 one.
The PPC 2002 update won't install because you have not got PPC 2002 installed (it checks this). However if you swap the ROM image file from the 2002 update and put it in the Wince 3.0 update directory (change the ROM name to match) and run it, the Wince 3.0 updater will continue fine - not checking the ROM version, and install 2002 for you.
I picked this up on one of the Microsoft News Groups - and it worked for me. However you could 'brick' your device if you mess it up. You may just want to use Ben's Wince 3.0 version ;).
I'm not sure of the legality of this - but since Compaq refuse to ship the Wince 3.0 to PocketPC 2002 upgrade for the US OS to Japan, I had no choice!

You can 'un-brick' your 3600 using the iPAQs built in Flash utility, and a CF card. However, you need a good iPAQ with a serial dock to donate a good ROM image. This saved my skin before.
