Minimum tablet/ppc requirements

I'm interested in the minimum requirements a tablet pc needs to run netremote. I know Ben has a Fujitsu Point 1600, which is a 166mhz pentium, and he said it runs NetRemote fine. But what about 100mhz models, like the Fujitsu Point 510? 50mhz models?

What about pdas? What is the cheapest color pda that will run netremote?

Also, will netremote run on winxp tablet edition?

Are there any downsides to the point 1600? I see it auctioned for around $250, which is close to the price of the cheapest pdas, so why not go for tablet pc? Is netremote fully compatible with 800x600 now, or are there still some issues? I guess I'm just wondering why I would want to buy a pda when I can get a tablet pc for the same price?

The disadvantage of oder PC based tablets is that they'll be slow in booting up and probably won't last long on a charge. If they have an older version of Windows, running WiFi on it maybe a bit trickier too. Of course the advantage is you can run the desktop version of Netremote, which is guaranteed to run in 800x600 on this platform.

Main advantages of a PDA are instant on, handheld form factor and battery life.

For me, the Siemens Simpad is a better trade-off for Netremote. It gives a Tablet PC screensize, while for the rest behaves like a PDA. It is currently being discounted at prices at PDA level too, but only in Germany and Austria. However, Netremote doesn't run at 800x600 on this platform yet, we're figuring out how to make it work.

I would guess it would run fine on the 100mHz. 50mHz? Maybe! I think it will -run- no matter what, but performance may not be quite up to snuff.

On the 1600 I'm using a ccf that has a bunch of alpha transparent images. Those are slower to render than regular images, so running a 640x480 ccf with no alpha images should run fine on a 100mHz, or possibly a 50mHz.

Any color PDA running Win CE 3.0 or newer will run NetRemote fine, as far as I've seen. Of course getting an ARM or X-Scale processor will allow for you to run the newest versions of NetRemote. I still haven't compiled 0.99 for the MIPS or SH3 versions of Pocket PC.

The downsides to the 1600 (As Jeroen said) are that it takes -forever- to boot. The battery lasts < 2 hours (I leave mine plugged in in the kitchen).

NetRemote is fully compatible with any resolution on Windows, and it will run -awesome- on any WinXP Tablet Edition machine.

I'm running Netremote on a Fujitsu 510 with no problems and its trough an Orinoco wireless NIC.

I just have figure out how to enable 16K colour mode in the hacked video driver as currently I can only get 256 colours.

Laz - when you get 16 bit enabled, please let us know how performance is. The 510's can be had for less than 200 bucks on ebay, if I remember correctly.
