Dear Fellow Users of NetRemote,
I'm a newbie to using Tonto to configure ccf for netremote (win32). And I've already tried to browse all the available ccf's that I could find in the forum here to learn how to make my own. If anyone in here could give me some detail directions, it will be greatly appreciated...
I'm trying to make 3 buttons on my ccf to control the left/right balance on my pc. Ideally, one button would be for the left speaker sound only, one button for right only, and one button to center so both left and right are equal. But it would be ok if a slider could be made or a button to control how many steps to the left balance (e.g. 5000 units) and another button to control moving to the right balance.
One of the troubling aspects in tonto is the use of the IR codes (i.e. the data information under the IR Signal dialog box, such as 5001 0000 0000 0002 ffff 0000 0001 0000). Does each button need to have a different code? How does one generate an IR code?
Under Button properties/Actions after double clicking a button, you can click the box "Alias" and you'll find Macro1: Left. Can this be used to control left/balance? If you choose this, do you still need an IR Code?
After you've configured the ccf, do you need to configure the girder on the server pc?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Erwin.

You can do this using Girder on the back end. If you download the latest version 3.3.1b you will find a file called luavolume which is a perfect extension for what you want.

Thanks mjcumming for your advise. But I apologize for my stupidity. After I have installed the latest version of girder on my server pc, how would I configure it on the server and on my remote laptop/ppc? How would I incorporate that particular command in the ccf? Would you or anyone here be able to describe the steps in detail as I'm a real newbie on this. By the way, I've seen the term lua in several places, can someone here tell me how it is used and what is it?
Thanks so much in advance.
Erwin.

Lua is a scripting languague, of which I know close to nothing... As for Girder you need to send one command to the Girder instance that's the host configured in NetRemote and let that instance use the Internet Event Client plug-in to send a command to the instance of Girder running on the computer you want to adjust the balance and whatever on. That is received by the Internet Event Client, and from there on it's handled like any other Girder command. You should have a look at the Girder website, it has a tutorial and other newbie stuff there. The learning curve is steep, but so is the learning curve for driving a Lamborghini (I almost crashed a Countach once...), but the rewards are huge. 8)

Many thanks to you Mastiff.
Although I have some difficulty understanding the technical stuff you have written, I think after I've gone through the girder tutorial, it'll all make sense.

Mastiff is right. It is going to take some time - ie the weekend! to get up to speed on girder and netremote and how the 2 talk to each other. Once, you get it though, the posibilities are endless.
Start with trying to get netremote to send a command to girder. Once you are there, then look at the luavolume.pdf file in girder for how to change the balance.

Just to clarify, is this the balance for the entire computer, or just when running J. River Media Center?
If it's JRMC, balance handling is built in, otherwise you'll need Girder as these guys are saying.

Dear Ben,
It's the Left/Right balance for JRMC that I need, but I've searched all the option menu in JRMC and still I couldn't find a control for L/R balance. That's why I have resided to control the entire computer's L/R balance as a result.
It would be most wonderful if you could provide me with details on how to control the L/R Balance for JRMC using netremote. Let me just re-iterate that I'm a newbie on this. Many thanks.
Erwin.

Thanks to mhlwing for the design of this balance "control". I copied it from a test ccf he sent me.
This is probably a good idea going forward, to make "controls" out of groups of buttons/frames/etc. that do one thing in particular.
Anyway, without further ado, here is the JRMC Balance Control. Copy it to your own CCF and you're good to go!

I think I 'stole' it from Mastiff's CCF file...
I don't want him to set his dogs on me... :D
and of course this example doesn't work properly in .994 because it is a horizontal scroll bar !
