I looked on the download page and I looked at the start of the 240+ thread above (I really don't have time to read it all so I hope I don't miss anything important.)

I'm totally confused as to which bits I need and where to find the latest versions. There is a lot of jargon used and to a newbie I think it's very daunting.

On my HTPC I currently have Girder and JRMC working nicely. So does this mean I don't need the NetRemote suite? What about Tonto - that's not on the download page? Given that I have Girder already and a USB-UIRT on it's way does that mean that I don't need NRIRServ because I just get Girder to trigger the IR commands? Which bits of NR get installed on the PC and which on the PPC?

When looking at the 0.995 thread above Ben mentioned various .dll's that are needed too - that really confused me. This really is a nightmare for anyone new - like a maze of jargon

Having used MC for quite sometime I know better than to download from the link on the download page because it could be out of date so I came here instead. It would be really helpful if someone could say you need this, this, this and this and here's where you get it.

Th short answer is: download the NetRemote Suite from that huge 0.995 thread above, in the first post.
The suite allows you to install all the other components you'll need, both on the PC and the PPC.

As for a longer answer: I've started writting a NetRemote guide some tme ago and waited to have something "subtential" before making it available.
Given the fact that I'm moving really sloooow on this and that it might already answer some of the "newbie questions", I'll release it now.

If all goes well, I'll post a link to it on those forums in a couple of hours.

Eric.

Thanks Eric that would be really helpful.

I'll download the installer from Ben's post and hope that it installs everything except MC & Girder which I already have.

Can you tell me if there's any benefit in me using NRIRServ or is that just for people who don't use Girder?

Thanks again.

There is clearly a benefit, as NRIRServ will provide you with IR passthrough "for free". You can use CCF with standard IR code associated with your buttons (as you would for a normal Pronto remote) and NRIRServ will automatically convert and send that to the flasher you're using (USB-UIRT in your case).

If you want to go the Girder way for IR, then you need to do all the work manually, learn IR in Girder, ...

Unfortunatly, I don't use NRIRServ and have no IR flasher compatible with it, so I have not documented that in my guide yet.

BTW: I'm uploading the guide to my site now, so I'll post the URL really soon.
