I'm trying to figure out how to use it in places where Netremote does not cover... Weather, TV Guide, etc

YES - i have seen this a long time ago - I think there are a few people on this forum who have discussed it as well - like how to tie it in with NetREmote...
BUT - I just saw this today on PocketPCTools.com front page:
http://www.rudeo.com/mce.htm
This might turn out to be a competitor to J.River Media Center...

Hardly. At least not for us. This is a strictly "Joe Sixpack"-system since it uses Windows Media Center. Easy to set up and use, primitive on possibilities and configurability. M$ should stick to what they know - office programs. In the multimedia department they're rather lousy in my opinion.

I Agree!!! I looked at it a little more... it was more the "First Glance" that got me... then a little deeper I noticed it doesn't seem to be at all configurable, I didn't see any skins for it - they were trying to make it too "out of the box"
also you have to have the .NET stuff... Why bother!?!?!?!
Anyway - there are people/companies out there trying to do what Ben has already done... so we need to tell all our friends and spread the word about NetRemote - just so Ben will have more work to do!!! hahaha :) At least motivate him - he's got a great thing here and God Forbid, could sell it someday and make a boatload of money!! Course, that would be bad for us, because with that starts restrictions on what you will be able to do with the software!! But, Ben should be rewarded someday... right!? but for now.........................
At least get more people on the forum... it's still under 400 I think... Something this good should NOT be kept a secret!!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments. But I have refrained from publicising it too much on the DigiTV forum (where I am moderately active) as there is not a *release* I can point newcomers to. My DigiTV driver requires the features of 0.995, and it is not officially a release yet.
Incidentally (re the original topic of this thread) my WMP9 NR driver pretty much lets you do all that the xlobby software does. Ok, I'm no graphic artist, and my own screens are nowhere near as pretty, but someone who can craft a smart looking CCF could almost totally emulate it.

I was playing more with xlobby today... very powerful and easy to use/setup. Looks to rival Netremote in functionality. I'm going to give it serious consideration!
My initial take...
Pros
- XML based
- point/click gui editing
- skinable
- PPC client support
- extinsable via plug-ins
- WinAmp based plug-in included
*multi-zone audio support built-in
- Picture viewer plug-in included
- Movie view plug-in included
- multi client support
* via a server connection (video/control redirection)!
Cons
- still in Alpha test stage
Unsures
- must 'import' pictures, movies, music into XML database prior to using
*not sure how this will work with changing files
If Ben and the developer of XLobby could combine features, it would be unrivaled.

Avid - is this WMP9 NR driver your nr_AvidJukeboxDriver.dll ???
And how does it do everything that xLobby does?
I would like to know more about it... can you point me in the right direction(s) please ?

Aaargh - I mistyped - or at least read one thing and typed another.
When I said:

Obviously my original comment makes no sense at all, as dalopey rightly points out! Sorry about the confusion.

Definitely having NetRemote still in prerelease (< 1.0) has been a major stumbling block that will be fixed shortly.
Some of the things that make it XLobby easy to setup and use is the more simple "skin" format he's using (more simple to design, but not as feature rich) and the "it does this, and only this" control system he's using.
With that said, Stephen has been doing nice work on XLobby. It definitely makes me jealous that he can devote as much time to XLobby as he's been able to.
There are things afoot in the NetRemote world that should help alleviate some of the problems self proclaimed "newbies" have getting started with NetRemote. I hope you'll stick around for the NetRemote vision to be fully realized, but if anyone feels XLobby is more your bag at this time, run with it.

I like the skin and buttons on Rudeo Control if nothing else. Very nice and might look good in a ccf!
