Hi everyone,

My name is Oren and I'm from Israel.
After a long time, thirsty for the right solution, I was happy to find
what I was looking for (I hope) - NR.

I want to jump right in and I would appreciate any help, choosing the right equiptment for using NR.

1. Before I begine, I want to be sure about something: I understand that the NR does not act like a regular IR Remote - sending IR directly.
My question is - do I get the same reaction as a regular remote? I mean, from the aspect of the speed reaction (is there any time delay between the action- from the NR, and the reaction- from the equiptment)?

2. Now, for the list of equiptment I need:

I want to be able to control a regular Home Theatre system (TV, Receiver, DVD), a Sony 400 disc Jukebox and X10 - through IR and ActiveHome. I also have a Xantech's "IR distribution system" - Amplified 10 Emitter Connecting Block, IR Receiver + Emitters, and of course- a Wireless LAN.

a) Which device can give me the best control for the Jukebox and for the IR distribution - Slink-e or Global Cache? (From what I understand, both the Slink-e and the GC transmit feedback from the jukebox to the computer, but can they send this feedback to the PPC througe NR as well)?

b) Can the J. River Media Center do this, in addition to controlling the music stored in the computer? if not, what software can?

c) For the IR distribution - I noticed there is only a connection for IR emitters on the GB - is there any way to connect the entire Connecting Block to the GC? If not, can the Slink-e do this?

d) Now - about the PPC: should I prefer one with a built-in wireless or one with a seperate CF/SD LAN card? Does the built-in one react better/faster? (My intention is to upgrade to a 802.11g using CF card as soon as it becomes available).

e) Is there any Hardware/Software that I need, which I didn't mention?

I hope I didn't frustrate you with this list of questions.

Thanks in advance,

Oren

J River's Media Center will not control or use your changer. I just switched to a hard drive library using the lossless format called APE and Media Center. I used to use a Sony 400 CD Changer and the Slink-e interface. Most people are switching to the hard drive based system and I have to say I am quite pleased with Media Center. If you insist on keeping you changer you could get a used Slink-e and move over to MusicLobby as they do support integration with the Changer, but I would not recommend it as its much more expensive.

1. I'm using a GC and I'm pretty happy with the reaction time of IR signals. The big difference is the connection time when the PCC is off and you need to control something, you'll have to wait 5-15 sec depending on PPC before you can issue the IR. Also note that IR through GC does not (yet, Ben's working on it) support repeat of IR commands when a button is held down.

2c. You can connect the GC to a Xantech distribution block (amplified or not). GC is selling a cable to do that GC-CGX. I believe you could easily do a cable yourself but their's is plug-n-play, have a correct isolation (opto-coupling I think)...
I suppose you have a 791-44, if that's the case, I already installed a GC to such a block for a customer and it's working OK, so no worries.

2d. No real opinion there, I'm using a separate CF card in an Axim X5 and it's working great. But with the new Axim X3i/X30 out, I think I'd go for the integrated solution, it looks better and I believe it's cheaper also.
When the Linksys 802.11g CF card is out there, I'll give it a try but I'm not sure it'll change anything for NR.

Netremote will have an IR solution as well.
