View Full Version : Possible to use WIFI AND IR at the same time?

I was wondering if Netremote (whatever version) is/will be able to use both build in IR and WIFI at the same time. The idea would be to control my HTPC using Girder and WIFI (PC with a wifi card) and the rest of my equipment with IR (TV, HIFI system...)

Am I dreaming here or is it something that can be done?

Thanks for your answer.

PS: what PPC would you advice to do so?

Absolutely - that's the plan. Use WiFi for Media Center, Girder, Web Browsing, IR passthrough (for some devices), and still use Direct IR.

The Axim x3i (and I'm guessing the x30) are currently the "best of breed" device for NetRemote in that configuration.

Thank you very much for answering me.

But will you be able to implement both types of codes in a CCF file?

I mean I only used CCF file with IR codes so far, will I be able to assign a WIFI (i.e. IP adress code) for a button and IR code for another in the same CCF file?

I hope I made myself clear here 8)

I have had 15-20 feet IR with the Axim X3 and X30.

We are still working on IR learn issues with this device.

Does that mean that the Netremote + Dell Axim "bundle" is now ready to SEND but not yet to LEARN IR codes. Having a USB UIRT, would I be able to learn IR codes with it and pass it to Netremote via Tonto?

In that case, does it mean that my project to use WIFI and IR jointly is now feasible as we speak?

You bet! Learn is actually fixed (in final testing), so you can use the Axim X3i to learn and transmit either directly from the axim, or via the USB-UIRT (and switch back and forth, if you have some devices for each).

Great :D :D

Any idea when this "beauty" is going to be available for purchase?

Hi again,

Do you still recommend Dell X30 wifi or X3i in order to use WIFI and IR jointly in Netremote Pro ?

Will all hard buttons AND scroll wheel be possibly assigned to Netremote events?

Is IR powerful enough to control TV or HIFI system?

I have both the x3 and x30. IR works excellent at 12-15 feet. I haven't tried it from any farther than that. The only thing I don't like about the axims is the wireless light that flashes....

Thanks for your answer, can please tell me the last thing I wanted to know which was:

Not sure about the scroll wheel as I've never had one but you can certainly assign hard buttons to any NR action. You can assign different actions for the hard buttons according to the device (think of that as panel) you are currently viewing.

Last time I checked the scroll wheel was effectively the same as cursor up/down. This appears to be a limitation of the Axim, and may apply to other PDAs too.

Ok, does that mean that I won't be able to use four directions to assign stuff like vol+ or vol- or pro-/prog+?

Only right and left are working, am I correct?

Not quite, just that one pair will be the same as the scroll wheel. ie you could use cursor up/down for volume and the scroll wheel will do the same. Unless Ben has found a way round that recently?

BenS (or anybody else), can you still confirm that the x3i model works perfectly with Netremote for IR and WIFI.

I am asking that question because I am about to buy one next week and doesn't want to do any mistake since this PDA will only be used as a remote to control my HTPC and Hifi system...

Sorry for bothering you again but the X3i is now as much expensive as the X30 in France.

Will the X30 Combo (WIFI + bluetooth) do the same job regarding IR use?

I have the x30, x3 and x50. They all do very good IR :D
