How do I save a link to a topic?

Hello,

I hope this is not a really stupid question but I can't figure out how to save a link to a topic. I want to email the link to someone and I also want to post the link in another forum for people who are looking for help. But the links all come up dead when I copy and paste them from my url bar. This is very frustrating. What am I dong wrong? :-?
