From what I've read it looks like folks are having issues using the learn feature on Axim X30's.
My experience in getting the learn feature to work has been pretty bad. I've attempted to learn codes from my HK AVR-7200's remote, my Hughes DirecTivo remote, My Denon 910 DVD players remote as well as my Toshiba 65HDX82's remote. The only remote that learns anything successfully is the Toshiba. Even then the buttons programmed only work 50% of the time.
Anyone else having better luck with the X30?

I am using the X30 as well. Are you using the latest aug 9 release?
Learn is not working well for me either. TiVO is 60%. Denon receiver is much better.
Devices do work with download codes off remotecentral.
We are in touch with the IR developer. If you have any other feedback, we would appreciate it.

Hi Guys,
you have to exactly distinguish between teaching and sending the codes. I also have Problems teaching my iPAQs 3660 and 3970 but on my 38xx it works perfectly. There seems to be an interrupt while learning, that produces problems, depending on how long the code runs. If that is the case, try teching a single short keypress. There will be no repeat then, but it should work.
With the output, you most certainly have to adjust the priority of the IR-Driver to the maximum possible value. The maximum is the point, before the screen gets stuck, while sending IR.
On my 3850 this ist 100 (max) and on my 3660 it is 97.
I will investigate more tonight.

Wilhelm,
Where do you do this adjustment? I haven't found it yet.

Go to the properties of the IR-Driver, Press "configure IR Port" and there you are...

I believe I was using Aug. 8th release. Were the two releases back to back days? I'll download it again to get to most recent.
Just to be clear I'm having problems with learning and downloaded codes. I'll try some more downloaded codes from remotecentral and make sure the IR priority is set to 100% when I'm testing.
Learning however almost never works as I mentioned on the X30. It chimes and learns a code but the code must be wrong. I have done most of my testing on the learned codes with the IR send priority at 100%.

Yes. A -big- issue in IR learn was identified and fixed for the Aug 9th release. I think you'll find it a -lot- better with your devices.
Apparently the devices I'm testing with are pretty accepting of any codes somewhat approximating the original code, as it was working okay for me before this fix (honest!).

Mike,
Is it really necessary to switch off the radio's, or is this an assumption? Surely it cannot do any harm, to switch it off, but on the iPAQ's I have no problems neither with Bluetooth nor with WLan. Did you find a difference with that on your X30?

Heres an update of my testing since upgrading to the 8-9 release.
I have 5 remotes I'm attempting to program. Not all of which I'll use for Direct IR but for the sake of testing I'm trying them all.
Denon 910 DVD - Learns nearly flawlessly and produces working IR nearly everytime.
Toshiba 65HDX82 RPTV - Learns every attempt but produces working IR approximately 1 of 3 learns.
myHD mdp-100 HiDef PCI Card - Remote learns every attempt but like the Toshiba 3 or 4 attempts may be required to get working IR.
Now the Bad:
Hughes DirecTivo - Remote learns every attempt but out of 15 or so attempts only one time did the IR get successfully produced to where it worked.
Harman Kardon AVR7200 Receiver - Remote learns every attempt but not once out of 20 or so learns has the X30 been able to produced working IR with the learn.
So that's it. I'm encouraged by the Denon especiallly. Hopefully it'll all be working that well when its all said and done :)

It turns out the x30 is going to need some more tweaking to the timings perfect. We hope to have something in the next couple of days.

wilhelm, sorry this is off topic but i too have no troubles with direct ir on ipaq 3870 but the range is pitiful. what device/modification do you use to extend this? thanks

ryan74,
I modified my iPAQs and fitted them with an internal IR booster. This is certainly not a way everyone can go, but if you are interested look here:
