If you want to expand the number of serial ports in your machine, there are USB attached serial ports on the market today. For example, I use a four port serial hub.
If you want a native USB IR receiver, you need to talk to a hardware manufacturer, not software guys. :smile: Though I would suspect a device like this (http://www.ftdichip.com/Documents/ft232r08.pdf) would be adaptable to a UIRT design in a pretty easy fashion.
