I'm new to this. I just put together my living room PC and want to remote control enable it.
I would like you to suggest to me the possible best working setup for remote control. The main use of the PC is TV/video/music.

I've got IrDa and a Keyspan adapter, Ati all in wonder radeon, XP, MMC7.5.
The Keyspan works, but does not allow me to use any other remote control (I think, except for a simulated JVC VCR control, but I would prefer to use some of my more generic RC that offer a better key layout).
I wondered whther Girder may be a solution, what should I use as IR receiver? Will IrDa or Keyspan work? Should I better get a different receiver? If yes which?
As I live in germany I may not be able to buy all different kinf´ds of hardware so several suggestions are very welcome!

Thank you for your help,

Regards,
Ecu

Hi you can Log the Codes your Remote Controll send. This Codes you have to write manually in a file for the keyspan soft. Look into the other files wich are already in your keyspan direcory. It is very simple but very pedantically.

Maybe someone will prog a soft for that or a plugin for girder i can't do something like that :-(.

Hi!

I don't have any experience with the setup you are using, but if you want to use a normal IR-remote, you could try the UIRT, UIRT2 or Igor-device with girder.

The UIRT's have the benefit, that you can control every device with girder that is IR-remote-controllable, like TVs. With the UIRT2 you can also turn on your PC with a remote and do some additional stuff. Since Luc sells complete devices or kits, this hardware is also available in germany.

If you only want to receive some IR-codes, the Igor-device is by far the cheapest thing when you build it yourself. Look at the Igor page (http://www.cesko.host.sk/girderplugin.htm).

Another idea could be the ATI-Remote-Wonder. I use the Remote-Wonder with no other ATI software/hardware installed and really like it. Some buttons cannot be used with girder, but the integration with the MMC should be better. Price is about 30€ in germany with shipping.

I also live in germany. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
