just do a quick search for IRDA in the forum. It might work, but if it does it probably still won't be very good.
So if you alread have the receiver you can give it a try, but I wouldn't spend any money on that option.

ok, so at least it won't cost you anything. Start looking for a .inf patch. Never did it myself. Last time I tried to use an IRDA receiver was on NT4 which fortunately wasn't plug&pray and allowed a manual install of a serial driver.

Does this work?

I can use the onboard IR ( set up as com2 in bios ) for irda but I'd like to use it with a TV remote aswell. Actually I don't need irda, so I'm happy to lose that function.

Any suggestions?

The IR port came with the M/B & case combo ( MSI 6215 ). Unfortunately, XP installs the irda drivers automaticlly & most software expects to see a Serial IR port. I haven't found a way of fooling XP.
