I am new to the girder world, so please forgive the probable stupidity of these questions :(

My current HTPC setup uses firefly(non girder version) to control Meedio and SageTV with Firefly's bundled .xml control file. This was essentially a plug and play solution.

I finally gave in and realized I need girder to get the system to do what it needs to do.
I need to be able to control those apps plus a Denon receiver with the firefly remote, and eventually with a wifi pda via netremote.

I am currently working through the Girder tutorials.. wow what a powerful program!

My questions are:

1. If I switch to the Girder plug-in version of Firefly does that mean that I lose the control I currently have through the .xml file? For example would Sage and Meedio have to be controlled through Girder and a gml file?

2. If the answer to #1 is gml file only.. then is there some repository where I can find this bit of gml goodness preconfigured with firefly evenstrings triggerring Sage and or Meedio commands?
Or do I have to piece-meal it together by downloading the sage gml here and then custom adding in the eventstrings for the firefly remote?

3. Can girder work happily with 2 different inputs (netremote via wifi, and firefly)?
I am thinking you would make 2 command entries with the same "action" but each triggered by a different "eventstring" ... Am I thinking straight there?

I know I have tons of learning to go.. I just wanted to start with a base gml that was at least in the ballpark for the remote and apps I wanted to use.

Thanks for any input on this stuff guys!

Hi Kimper,

To answer you briefly.

1. No you would not loose the control thru the xml file, BUT... It would be better to do it thru Girder. Simple reason is it is less confusing and more flexible.

2. Dunno about preconfigured for firefly. I have a setup file for sgetv v2 thou I use, plus a load of other good stuff.
If you want it let me know.

3. Yes, you may need to add two event strings thou.

Yes, but there are some very helpful people here and lots of exported groups and posts to learn from. Don't forget the search function in the forum as well!.
