The X10 remote I have works well with the generic X10 plugin. The only fault I can find with it is that the text that appears in the Events section of the main window when you press a button are mostly incorrect and confusing. I'm guessing that each remote X10 produces remaps the key functions differently?
Is it possible for me to correct this in some way, perhaps via a .ini file, for example? Where does the text come from anyway? I did a quick scan of the plugin with a hex viewer, but could not find the texts.

Yes, it does depend on the remote. Which one do you have?

It's the remote X10 OEMed for the Medion MD8083 PC.
The only identification is "Made in China by X10" and P/N 20018071 underneath, but that's likely to be a Medion P/N. I have not been able to find info on this remote at the X10 website, but that website is quite horrific and I didn't stay long.
Would I be right in guessing a plugin would have to be compiled for this remote to see correct event text strings?

Essentially.
I know Ron was looking at making this plugin more generic but I think we abandoned doing that... :-?

We might have to revive that program :-) Not at the moment though... Q1 2005

I wonder how many X10 remotes are out there, with their own key mapping?
Perhaps when you do get around to redoing the plugin :) you would think about making the key texts and codes external in a .ini, so as X10 release ne models - or oddballs like mine are found  - it would be a snap to make any alterations?

There are a lot of different ones :(
G4 is going to allow you to map a remote to a standard set of predefined commands. Will make sharing GMLs very easy.

There aren't THAT many X10 remotes! Let the users define their own .ini files, or at least give them the ability to do so. I'm sure many would be willing and capable of editing a text file.
