View Full Version : Polar USB interface

I've been trying to use the Girder software with my Polar heartrate monitor IR link but I can't get it to respond. It's a USB-based interface which probably uses the IrDA-protocol.
The thing is that the device doesn't register as an IR-interface, but as an interface type of it's own. Do you think that it's possible to use the device with Girder anyway?
Don't really know if this is a legitimate question for this forum, but I don't know any place else to turn to (except for the Polar support but I don't think they would be much of help)

if it is irda, you most likely won't be able to pick costumer IR anyway, and it is most likely impossible to have the device to be recognised by girder...
you should give a look in the FAQs about irda.
you should manage to make or acquire a simple IR device instead, some are USB based, others are comport based.
hopefully this info is usefull.

Does it show up as a Human Interface Device (HID) in the Windows device manager? If so, you might be able to use the HID plugin. (See this thread (http://www.promixis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9518))

Sorry, Mark F, but it wasn't that simple :-(
The device manager cathegory that the device is located in is called "PolarUSB Device" and I guess that if it was a HID it would show up in the HID-cathegory. Thanks anyway!
Thanks for you reply too Marsupial, I think you gave me the aswers I didn't want to hear, but also those I expected...

any luck with this? I do see the polar respond with a remote control. there must be some way to make this work. perhaps checking with polar on what protocol they use?

I'm also looking for a solution to this. My polar also responds when I press the buttons on the remote. Anyone got this to work yet?

the only G interface that would work out of the box would be if the device was a HID device. otherwise, someone would have to write a plugin for it.
