Most of the motherboard IR available today is not consumer IR but IRDA. This works on a case by case basis with some remotes but not many.

I use a Rocketport Serial hub (http://www.usbtown.com/nav/item.asp?item=2902) to extend the number of serial ports on my machine. Attches via USB and works great with Girder.

Yes and yes.

The rocketport on my Win 98 system at home is set up as COM5-COM8. I have used them all with the serial plugin.

EDIT: You might find a better price than the USBTown link above. I used it only as an example.

I don't have a list. I don't have an IRDA port. There is an IRDA plugin for Girder on the download page but, as it says, it may not work.

I may need another com port for another device to control the from serial plug in can Girder use the Asus motherboard IR input or is their an equivalent USB IR receiver to do the trick ie one that frees another com port.

Thanks Rick

The rocket port looks the go I already have 4 com ports can I use one of these to go to 8?

Will I then have access to com1 thru com8 in Girder?

Thanks rick

Can you provide the Manufacturer and Model number for the remotes that do work with IRDA? If a remote does work with IRDA, will Girder work with the IRDA?
