The serial port stuff is kept in the registry. This really shouldn't be affected by upgrading Girder. (famous last words)

However, if you as paranoid as me, :smile: you could:

Export each of your serial devices to a file.
Upgrade.
Import the devices back into the serial plugin.


As for the commands in the .gir file(s), I don't think the upgrade will affect this at all. The file definition hasn't changed for a long time.

For the record, I have upgraded my version of Girder many times and not had any lost commands or data.

I use the Serial plugin extensively and wish to upgrade to the latest version for some additional features what is the safest simplist way without losing my Serial port setup etc.....

Actually I use the Serial plugin 2.3 but want to upgrade Girder to the latest version 3.24 or 25

thanks Mark so just download the installer and install over the top no need to remove it first?
