Hi,

I'm trying to evaluate NetRemote for my HTPC. So far I was able to connect to my bluetooth enabled HTPC from my iPAQ 1945 and control zoomplayer as well as iTunes. I haven't got Girder to work yet but I believe that I just haven't configured everything properly. I think you guys have an awesome product(s).

Anyway, my problem is after mediabrige launches the windows installer comes on and tries to install DAO.msi and says it can't find it. I cancel the install and I get an Error 1706. After that everything works fine...until I startup the HTPC again and the instal kicks off looking for DAO.msi.

I've looked at this forum and have not found it this issue. I've looked at other forums and found it is related to MDAC requiring installation (Roxio and MS Office, blah, blah blah). Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I haven't seen that before. What is MDAC? Do you have a link?

MDAC stands for Microsoft Data Access Components; DAO is Data Access Objects, the two are related. Also I belive that MS Access is somehow related to this as well. Here's a link to the microsoft site:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&displaylang=en

I'm trying to keep the minimum amount of extraneous installs to my HTPC if I can avoid it, i.e. not install MS Office etc, but is there an Access component NetRemote uses, i.e. Jet engine? Here is a link to someone having a similar problem:

forums.devhardware.com/t23551/s.html

The solution was to install mdac_typ-Enu-260.exe, this seem to resolve the issue. I tried to do this as well but XP stopped me say that this was already an integral part of the OS and that I couldn't install it or something to that effect.

stryker - Yes, the media bridge uses MDAC to access an access database used to cache the media library.

Is this a corrupt installation of XP, perhaps?

I don't believe so, or at least I hope not. I've installed ATI's MMC which has a DAO component when you install the ATI DVD player/decoder. So I know I have version 2.6 of MDAC somewhere in my system. Does NetRemote require a more current MDAC version?

I have the same issues.

I've tried reinstalling MDAC, but mediabridge still insists on installing DAO.msi even though it exists on my system. I've also installed MS Office 2003 and mediabridge still wants to install DAO.msi. Is there a setting somewhere that tells mediabridge to install DAO.msi? Does mediabridge look for the existence of a directory and if it doesn't find it assume DAO is not installed? Is there a way to stop mediabridge from running the installer, because once I cancel out of the install everything works fine so I know my setup is correct. I'm starting to reach the end of my rope as to what to do next, and I don't plan on reinstalling the OS anytime soon.

....help....
:-?

Hi Stryker,
There is nothing in MediaBridge specifically having it try to install DAO.

This URL help at all? http://forums.teamphoenixrising.net/showthread.php?t=23983

Let me know. I'll do what I can from here. It's the OS clearly thinking it has to install DAO when MediaBridge init's DAO.

Thanks for the link. I also found a solution that worked (tried it at 3AM this morning  ). I didn't save the link but I copied the page. Here it is:

Error: 1706. No valid source could be found for product DAO. The windows installer cannot continue" and/or complaining that the file DAO.MSI could not be found.

A) This is due to a corrupted installation of Office-2000, even if Office-2000 seems to work OK for you. DAO components are installed also by Office although they are not used unless you access a database from Word / Excel, what is posible but not very usual.

Some ways to fix the problem:

First try selecting "Help - Detect & repair" menu option in any Office-2000 application (let's say Word or Excel) so that Office installer can try to fix the problem.
If this fails, the other option is to use the Windows Installer cleanup utility (msiccu.exe) than you can download from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301)
If this also fails the last chance would be obviusly to completly uninstall Office-2000 and install it again. But I would try first the other two options

The MSICCU.exe utility is what worked for me. I was able to remove the DAO.msi installer with it. Once I did that NetRemote, along with Mediabridge all worked without trying to reinstall DAO! However, it also messed up my ATI dvd player software. I managed to uninstall all the MMC related software (i.e. DAO, DVD, MMC etc.) and reinstall it. The applications are working but ATI's MMC is not as robust as it was when I first installed it but everything works with a couple of minor quirks (i.e. sometimes I lose DVD video, but toggling to a window and back to fullscreen fixes this problem).

Thank heavens for Restore points :) . I think I'll try the solution proposed by your link and see if that works better than what I currently have.

I posted this reply so people have a solution that I know works. Just keep in mind if you go this route you will need to reinstall apps that use DAO.
