View Full Version : How install skins?

I've downloaded the NetRemote Pro Suite (Not sure I need the 'suite', as I already own Girder...but I want Pro...that's another topic).

I want to install the JLee v2.02 skin to take a look. I have set up my JRM like the instructions, and installed all the appropriate Plugins for Girder.

But, I have no instructions (not even mentioned in the 'manual' on how to do this) and didn't find anything in a search here, telling me how I install the skins/CCF on the PPC. All it says in the readme with the plugin is to install the CCF and LUA file, give same names (except extension), in the same directory. If so, any directory?

Sounds like all I have to do is copy them to the PPC (I'm using an iPaq). So, I looked around and decided to copy those files in the same directory as teh default files wiht NetRemote.

It loads and communicates, as I see it showing what's playing. But none of teh buttons work, such as Pause, stop, delete playlist, etc. They don't work on teh default JRM screen taht ships, nor the JLee CCF I installed.

So, I'm not sure it's installed right.

Hopefully a short tip from someone will help me.

[EDIT]
Well I looked at teh files in the download of JLees' CCF, and I found a GML file. (No mention in instructions of installing that, but once I saw it, I figured I need it.)

But, now when I click on a button in JRiver, I see a message on the Girder that says Blocked Connection.

I have a suspicion about a firewall, but I'd think my firewall would come up and ask about somethign trying to get through if that were the case.

First of all I would recommend you visit my web site (see sig below) and get the latest version 2.8 or if you want to control MC only try OpusNR.

You need to copy the ccf to the NetRemote CCF folder on your PPC - I think it's in My Documents. Then start NR on your PPC (not in full screen mode just yet) and File> (Can't remember the next bit but you'll find it) to open the CCF.

It does indeed sound like you have a firewall issue but it could also be that you have not set up the plug ins in NR / Girder / MC. I don't explain this in my CCF as it's general NR set up stuff.

In NR you'll find a plug in for Media Bridge. Make sure that the port is the same as in MC>Options>Startup>Run remote server on port...

The same goes for the Girder plug in. This has a port and password to set and it must be the same as the settings for Internet Event Server in Girder.

Thanks. I'll download the latest stuff.

I think the port may be the problem. Since teh post, I have found some buttons work and some don't.

I was wondering about the port. I left it at default, which is different from teh defaults of JRM (or at least what I have it set at.)

I have installed the plugins.

With regard to firewall, I have decided that is not it, as I disable it and get teh same errors. If I get the port updated, software updated, and reboots all around, and still have the issues, I'll start a new thread on the error messages in Girder in an appropriate forum.

Once you've installed the latest CCF let us know which buttons work and which don't. It could be very easy to explain and may not necessarily point to bad comms. Also, are you using Media Bridge on the PC serving up MC?

Media Bridge is not necessary if your preferred media player is MC (it is needed for WMP and iTunes) but it won't do any harm either. NR communicates with MC via a file called remoteserver.dll (in the JRiver\Media Center directory). When you install NR on the PC running MC it will make sure that this file is up to date. If you later install a new version of MC this will put the old file back and cause you problems. I don't use Media Bridge because I always make sure I keep the remoteserver.dll file up to date but if you do use Media Bridge this will do it for you.

So after all that rambling you need to make sure that your remoteserver.dll is up to date as per the one included with the NR install OR that you are starting MC via Media Bridge.

Thanks for that info. I was trying to decide wha Media Bridge was last night, and frankly, I don't remember if I installed it or not.

JRM is the only Music app I use.

From what you say, it sounds like maybe if I use Media Bridge, then teh problem with having the right version of the remoteserver.dll would go away. Is that accurate, or do i still need to maintain that.

The only concer this raises for me, which may be invalid, is that upgrading JRM, I wonder if it would require a different version that may come down with an upgrade. I seem to have a habit of letting JRM upgrade when one comes out. I'd rather not have to remember to update that file, but if I have to, so be it.

If you don't want to remember to update that file each time you update MC then install Media Bridge.
