View Full Version : Weather in JLee CCF - Installation?

I'm just a little confused. I downloaded the latest JLee CCF, and am wanting to ge the weather stuff going.
Where I'm confused is JLees' downloaded GML includes some weather stuff; it includes the Weather icons. The readme directs to a thread on Weather support, which directs to a Weather.zip, which also includes Weather GML.
Do I load both GMLs?
Do I need one set of the weather icons vs the other? ( I presume they are the same, but want to be sure).
Do I need to dowload the Weather Only CCF, and the Weatheonly.lua?
If no to all that, I'm not sure why I was directed to that site to download those things. Maybe that reference is only for getting info on registering, etc. I'm headed off to figure that part out for the time being.
[EDIT]
I just followed the instructions and went to the Weather.com site and registered. But it never gave me a partner ID or License key that I can find. Just tried to get me to sign up for a bunch of free offers. It says I'm signed up for the XML Data feed, but that's the only hint I have that I've done anything. Any direction?

If you follow the instructions in my read me, it tells you exactly what to do.
One ce you have registered, you have to wait for the email to be sent to you with the id and licence codes.

I have been trying to follow those instructions. The one thing your readme (actually, I presume you are speaking of the post referenced in the readme that comes with JLees' download), does NOT say is the sentence above... about waiting on an email. I saw no reference on Weather.com about receiving that info either. Although, I will admit that it may have been buried in the many other posts, or pages of marketing on Weather.com. I didn't spend 45 minutes reading all that.
At any rate, thanks for the help. I just checked and I did receive the email. So, I suspect I will be able to now follow the instructions and continue on.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Excellent, I think my post came across in the wrong was appologies there.
I have not said it before, but you can get away with running the weather stuff without the codes as well! It is a little bug in the weather.com xml feed.

Thanks.
Could the fact that I am currently in trial mode on NetRemote have anything to do with my problems? I am still not getting weather info. I do plan to buy NetRemote, so I might as well get that done.
I have done this:
- Loaded the JLee.lua, Weather icons, and GML files in appropriate places.
- Made sure weather icons are in My Documents
- Looked in the JLee.lua file, and the path shows wi = io.open("\\My Documents\\Weather icons\\"..name,"rb")
- I have entered the registration information emailed and location ID in the 2 scripts
-
I have NOT done any fo this:
- Load the GML, Weather icons or the LUA file from Weather.zip. I presume the ones from JLee's download accomplish the needs.
But, I get no graphics, and no weather info.
One thing I notice that I am suspicious of: In Girder, in the lower right corner, I see the message : Blocked Connection. I see the Girder icon in my system tray flash every second or so. I had thought that maybe my firewall was a problem, so I disabled it. It made no difference.
The only other 'testing' I can do is with the Media Center part of the CCF. Many functions in it work, and some don't. For example, I cannot load or unload MC wiht the power button, but I can play songs. I'm betting that the NetRemote and Girder interaction is not working. But not sure what to do.
I have validated ALL versions, Girder and plugins. However, I can say that in a couple of the plugins, I have newer versions than specified, and Girder is v 3.3.7. I presume that is OK.
[EDIT]
I just thought of something...when installing NetRemote, I seem to recall a selection about installing Girder. I presumed that was to actually install Girder, as opposed to a connection to Girder for NetRemote, so I did not select that. I don't want to overwrite my current Girder install. Do I need to go back and select that?
Oh, and another symptom...the Power Icons do not show up either. I have verified they are in teh location as specified in the LUA file.

Hi Roger -
It sounds like the passwords in NetRemote and Girder do not match. They default (unfortunately) to two different things.
Girder's is "NewDefaultPw" (or something similar), whereas NetRemote's defaults to "girder".
In Girder, go to plugin settings, select the Internet Event Server and look at the settings. You can change the password there.
In NetRemote, go to "Tools\Properties" (on PPC) or "File\Properties" (on Win32). Click the plugins tab, and then select Girder instance -1. Click properties. You can change the password there.

Hi,
First off, make sure you are using NR Pro, this allows you to talk to girder.
Also make sure you have the internet connection server plugin loaded in Girder, I beleive that NR doc's tell you how to get the girder connection working.
It may be worth while disabling your firewall while you get everything going, at you own risk! :-?
Are you using NR on the PPC or win32?
If you are using ppc and you named your directory "Weather icons" and put in my doc's that is ok.
When you load the ccf, if the icons and the lua file are loading correctly, you should have at least a "n/a" weather icon, it looks like a grey coloured sun with n/a in it
If JRMC is working but some stuff like power is not, it looks like your girder connection is wrong, make sure you have config'd it in accordance with the manuals

Ben
I thought we had it!. But, I have matched passwords and that hasn't helped. As well, the settings are set to Allow All. And I see a connection to it from my iPaq listed in connections.
[EDIT]
I got it communicating to Girder. Also in the settings was a box for Disable Abuse Protection. I checked that. I dont' know why that worked. I would think the password would cover it.
Weather still doesn't work though.

I have restarted/rebooted teh PPC; and I have unloaded and reloaded Girder.
I wasn't thinking there was any NetRemote no teh PC to restart. But, your message just made me think of the Media Bridge. I'll restart it...done...restart NR on PPC...done. That made the power icon show up. But still no weather.
Whoa...I just clicked on the screen where teh weather shoudl show up, and it started working. All done!
Thanks for all your help
