Default Problem with Firewall WinXP SP2

I found I had to disable the firewall to allow NR to access Mediabridge. Using auto setup to allow access didn’t work, nor did manually setting access for port 20002. Anyone else seeing this problem? Much as I like NetRemote I don't like disabling my firewall to get it - and don't bother to flame SP2 firewall - I've heard it

    Hi Simon,
I see this issue once in awhile, as well, and am working towards a fix.

Have you tried "Add Program", and browsing for both NetRemote and MediaBridge? I just tried that here (after forcing it to prompt me on starting MediaBridge) and it worked.

Meanwhile, I'll do some investigation to see why the auto-install isn't "taking" now.

It seems to be completely indeterminate. I got it to work by resetting the exceptions, then it stops again, I switched off the firewall (works - of course), then reenabled firewall, keeps working... At some point I'm sure it will stop working again!!

I tried with JRMC (rather than iTunes) and that worked OK - so I thought that might be the (an) answer - but that was part of the coincidence. But one thing I did realize is that if you use JRMC you don't need to run MediaBridge - is that embedded somehow in JRMC?

Yes if you use JRMC MediaBridge (MB) is not required as NR communicates with JRMC via the remoteserver.dll plugin in the JRMC directory. All MB gives you in this case is that it will keep remoteserver.dll up to date. It can become out of date by installing a new build of JRMC so if you are happy to keep it up to date manually in such circumstances and won't be running other media players you don't need to run MB. That's what many of us old-timers do here.
