PC to Stereo... what is everyone using?

Just curious what solutions are being used to connect your sound card to PC when your PC is too far away for direct cableing...

How far is too far? The Xitel HIFI Pro supports RCA, TOS and SPID and comes with 30 foot cables for all three. I use the TOS Optical myself. Its a good USB sound device.

Funny you should ask - I've been investigating exactly that issue. There's a new Bluetooth spec for high quality audio connection - A2DP. The first implementation I've found is from a company called Bluetake http://www.bluetake.com/products/BT460EX.htm which provides both transmitter and receiver (and has good reviews). DLink also has a wireless solution for audio connection which I believe is a proprietory protocol. I haven't tried either yet but am planning to take the plunge with Bluetake Hi-Phono but want to use Bluetooth from standard transmitter if possible - which requires A2DP in the stack - which is available from BlueSoleil. But this is very early stuff.

Hope this is of interest and would like to hear of any other experiences in this area.

Hate to say it, but I agree with the J man here. :roll: :wink: I haven't yet seen anything wireless that's good enough. That said I haven't yet seen that Bluetake stuff, but the pictures and specifications make my credit card cringe...

I won't argue about the quality issue. However, I see this problem again and again and would like to be able to recommend a resonable solution..

Terk makes a wireless system that isn't too bad. It sends at 2.4GHZ which can be a problem with other wireless devices. You can add more receivers also.

I would have to agree with JLee. If you want high quality music then I would suggest you take a big step back and think out of the box and rearrange your setup to make it fit. You can builf a nice looking HTPC type PC that looks like a piece of audio gear. What I did was to place the entire homeautomation/whole house audio setup downstairs directly below my main home theatre system in the living room. So I ran all the cabling up through the floor.

For my next setup which will involve a HDTV Projection TV I am thinking of hiding all the audio gear and control everything remotely through a Netremote screen. Dreams....
