Default Dell Axim: Using IR when wifi not on yet - avoid delay

As the Dell Axim needs time to establish the wifi connection after turning it on (even if it is only 10 seconds), I have been using a Pronto alongside to control the volume. When the phone rings and your wife tells you to turn the volume down, you can't expect much sympathy from her when this takes 10 seconds to do... Hey you husbands out there - you will understand!... :P

Now what I would like to do (in NR and girder) is the following: When there is no wifi connection, I want NR to send infrared commands (they work immediately after switching on). As soon as a wifi connection is established, NR should send wifi commands. This would get me both the advantage of being able to instantly control volume with IR and a much wider reach (and no need to point) with wifi once the connection has been established.

Has anybody done something similar before? What should I look out for? Any good examples which might help? Thanks!

You could make something using the Girder.LinkActive Variable to determine wether to fire an IR or a Girder Event.

    Thanks Dan.

Does this come back to the question of how to conditionally send IR commands which was discussed here : http://www.promixis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8316?

If sending conditional IR commands doesn't work, I could maybe try to set a filter at the receiving end. Whenever it receives a command, girder would then ignore the IR bit if wifi connection is active. Not sure how I would do that but it is a thought.

Could you say more about how exactly I would implement your suggestion?

    Thanks!

Perhaps it is not as simple as I thought.

Need to see if it is possible to send the ir code from an lua script, if it is then should be able to do it.
    Thx, Dan
