Since NR no longer supports Direct IR on the PPC - see other threads about this - pretty much any PPC should be fine. Personally I'd probably stick with a QVGA device (ie with a 240x320) screen since they'll generally be quicker than a VGA one (480x640).

But the VGA ones look sooooo much nicer .

Generally I haven't seen any speed problems with my n321... but then I don't really have anything to compare it to.

The only issue I have isn't NR's problem but the time I have to wait for the PDA to connect to my wifi network. Is there anything I could do to speed up connection?

The dell models are still available on ebay which is where I got my x51v. It looked like new and I haven't had any problems with it.

    iPAQ 210:

"touch screen is a nice feature and frees up having to pull the stylus every time"

"battery life, I did some tests: fully charged, I left it off for several days and found it
lost about 6% of the charge - not bad. I also tested to see how long it would run
Wireless before it ran down (almost five hours). I did have to use a 3rd party app to
change the close 'X' from background to actually closing running programs, which
    improved battery time as well."

"leaves much to be desired. The battery life is not ideal (something to the effect of 2
    hours MAYBE) "
"has an undesirable cushiony feel to it when compared to the 4700 or the Nokia
N800. This cushiony feel is the reason it requires more effort to get a response
when pushing the screen with finger or stylus. It also makes scrolling by way of
scroll bar a challenging task, better to use the navigator pad."
"Can use a mini USB cable for both charging and sync"

    iPAQ hx2495:
    Older model??
"Proprietary USB plug", "known issues with Windows Vista. WM5 wasn't built with
Vista in mind","multiple issues with the battery life" others say "Great battery life,
    even when using wireless"

    Asus 626:
"Pros: Windows Mobile 6 with lots of memory. Runs fast and the battery lasts
forever. Wi-Fi is normal for a PDA and bluetooth connectivity is way above average
since ASUS does not use the MS bluetooth stack but rather the much better
    Broadcom stack.
    Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I run TomTom on this and it connects to my bluetooth GPS reciever
quickly and reliably something my AXIM could not do on its best day. Battery also
lasts a long long time again much much better than any of the AXIMs I have had. I
have to charge it up about once every 3 days unless using it hard. It also natively
charges from the USB cable not requiring a special cable like many other PDAs."

    Conclusion
    __________

I seems to be a choice between HP and Asus. Asus reviews seem nicer than HP but who knows who wrote them. Asus CPU seems slow compared with HP. Twice the clock speed seems significant. Does Asus battery last longer because it chugs slower?
HP is available at my local store for $C384. Design is new. WM6. VGA is prettier for $100 more although same processor as QVGA.

Any experience out there with iPAQ 210 and WM6 (other WM6 thread inconclusive)?

been trying to read up on this software, and before i make any decisions to buy a ppc/this software i just had some questions.

first, id like to use this to replace all my IR remotes and control my htpc/ a/v receiver/projector/dish receiver, etc.
I see that netremote will send IR commands and is totally customizable, which is great. What worries me is i have done some research on the web and have seen people saying that the IR of the dell axims is lacking, and you have to be very precise where you point it otherwise it wont work. Is this the case with the x51v? would it be better to get a different ppc for this, buy an add on adapter of some sort, or would it be better to buy a IR transmitter for my htpc and have that send all the signals (which leads me to wonder how much of a pain that would be).
basically, will the x51v work the same way as any of my component remotes in regards to the IR not having to be precise?

Unfortunately directly using a ppc to send IR is no longer supported by netremote due
    to a licensing problem.

    Thumbs up HP iPAQ 214

I have just bought an HP iPAQ 214 and it is LOADS faster than my Acer 321 (which was getting on a bit and I'd lost the joystick and one of the buttons kept falling off).

I was amazed at how much bigger this PDA is than my n321 as well. I'll be installing and testing Netremote 2 on it this coming week (when I have time) so will post after that. Looks very promising though.
