    Default Slow startup of Netremote

I'm running Netremote on a Dell Axim X50 with WLAN. It is working just greyt, except one important issue: Whenever the the PDA wake up after it has been off, I have to wait 20 seconds before Netremote has contact to the server and I can start using it. Pretty annoying when the only thing I want to do is adjust the volume... I have measured how long time the PDA uses to get it's WLAN up after shutdown, which is 12 seconds. I can of course let the PDA be on all the time, but then the battery will need to be charged after just a couple of hours. When running the PC version of Netremote against the same server, it is up and running immediately (wired LAN).

Any tips on how to decrease the startup time?

Is this when contacting MediaBridge, Girder, or other?

Unfortunately you've already found the only sure-fire solution, keeping it on all the time. To increase battery time, have it turn off the screen sooner if needed.

I keep mine docked in the theater similar to a remote, and pick it up when I need to use it.

Unfortunately as you've said the WLAN is just a bit too slow to synchronize.

Can you remove all of the plugins -except- for MediaBridge and see if the time goes down?

Also, try hardcoding the IP address instead of using DHCP. If you can "lock" the SSID to connect to, that might speed it up also as it won't have to search for a wireless unit.

In addition, I have my WAP set to do MAC filtering, but do not have WEP enabled. Using WEP -may- slow down the initial handshake, but not sure.
