    For speed you will be better off with a PDA with a smaller screen as there are fewer pixels to move.

    Would a tablet pc be faster? If so, which tablet would you recommend? On ebay you can pick up a FUJITSU STYLISTIC 3400 TABLET PC for very little $. How would this tablet compare to a pocket pc? Would it take a long time to start up?

    Almost certainly faster yes, one of the UMPCs would be worth a look, but they're quite expensive. I have no specific recommendations on a tablet PC, hopefully others can contribute suggestions.
