The Onscreen Display in Girder is not convenient for using:
1) It's not capable to resize frame for long words with a big font (moreover, my desktop resolution is 1280x1024 and volume
bar is not resizable and too small).
2) It doesn't support overlay mode.

I'm sure Ron wouldn't mind if you came up with a "better" one. Check the Developer page for the plugin API:

The Girder is a great program, but OSD popup plugin is not so good. This is Mark Fiechtner's work, not mine.
I will be glad to see some improvements from him in the future.

The OSD Popup plugin uses the built in OSD of Girder. At the moment, I have no time to change this. As SteveV said, I'm sure Ron wouldn't mind if you came up with a "better" one.
