HELP rs232 mac and sanyo projector

ok so im a complete novice to rs232 and the likes

what im trying to achive is...
i wish to automate a projection system to turn on and off by itself.
so ideally id have a mac.. or if i need to a PC that would wake itself up turn the lamp on, on my sanyo xf47( i have the codes from the handbook)
then the computer would start a looping quicktime movie file then at a set time in the evening would shut off the lamps on the projector .. then do it all again the next night... ..

any help at all would be great.. no suggestion unwelcome.

To use Girder for this you would need a PC running Windows, but it all sounds doable.
