    Default Help Instability problems (win98se)

I am experiencing some odd irregular problems that result in the following error messages.
Have formatted and ghosted clean error free image from source drive several times. all will be fine for a while then periodically on re-booting the error messages occur again and system locks up
Error 1 msgsrv32.exe has performed an error ,program will be shut down
error 2 Explorer.exe has performed etc
error3 girder Exe executable has been tampered with inform etc

Anyone any ideas what could be causing this.?

My first tip would be the OS. All 9x are highly unstable, allthough 98SE was one of the better (while ME was by far the worst!). If you can, you should upgrade to Win2000. What version of IE do you have? A friend upgraded to IE6 on a 98SE and came into a heap of trouble. 8)

Hi mastiff thanks for your response.
I was looking to keep the overall o/s size as smalla as possible as I wish to ultimately use a compactflash card IDE and multimedia file store, 256Mb
I assume that by IE you mean internet explorer? its whatever gets loaded with win98se ? anyway it is not used the only part of the o/s needed is that sufficient to play 6 multimedia files. ( no mouse or keyboard inputs)I had considered getting winlite to cut down the size of win98 but don't know much about the benefits. I would like to remove everything possible and really cut down win98

Sounds like a virus or a disc crash to me. (faulty harddisk)

    Hi Ron
yes I agree it might except it is happening to 4 other drives also
I have used every spare drive I have now!
I have put winmedia in the startup folder and am using a wallpaper for static screen.
When it works correctly it boots up and settles with the wallpaper on the screen awaiting a keypad input to start a video clip.
Whe it gets an error mssg what happens is shortly after loading the wallpaper the mouse cursor shows somthing else happening in the background ? drivers loading? then the error message and everything locks up

No I haven't I took my virus scanner off some time back because it was causing other problems. Is there anupto date online scanner I could use ?

Thanks for your suggestion I am willing to try but can't see how I could have a virus if it never effects the source drive I am ghosting and I have managed to get one drive copy stable today yippee!
