Default Can't get keyboard shortcut actions to work

Hi, I have Girder set up to intercept a remote key and have it change the resolution of my display via the Powerstrip hotkey. The hotkey I want it to action is: Ctrl+Alt+W

In Girder under the Keyboard tab I have ticked Ctrl and Alt, and under Sentence have typed "W". When I test the command, nothing happens, yet even with the Girder window in the foreground if I press Ctrl+Alt+W it works.

Why isn't Girder sending this hotkey?

The only options Powerstrip give are Ctrl+Alt, Shift+Alt or Win+Alt. I have tried all with Girder and no luck.

Curiously it works fine at changing my refresh rate via nView using the shortcut Alt+1.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you making sure that the program in question has focus/is the foreground application?

The program in question is a global hotkey - it works no matter what program is in focus. E.g. if Girder is in focus and I manually press Alt+W, it works. But if I tell Girder to press Alt+W it doesn't. :-?

Powerstrip can also be controlled by commandline and this is a more reliable way to control it. I don't use PS, so I can't give you the exact setup, but many people use it this way.

Global keyboard shortcuts are always problematic. You can try to find out, if PS has some (hidden) window you can use as "target". Sometimes it works this way.

Did you also try the "Alternative Proc."-Mode?

Yes, no different. Don't worry, I've found another way around it using nView shortcuts instead of Powerstrip, which for some reason work a bit better.

    Default Similar problem

Sorry to bring up an old thread, by I have a similar question...I'm trying to bring up the playlist menu (to then advance playlist manually with programmed up/down keys on remote) on Winamp 5 by setting up an eventstring to reflect a Ctrl+O key combo...but I check off Ctrl and type in "O" in "Sentence"...and nothing happens.

I've already set it all up so that it first focuses to winamp before running the Alt+O command..but still nothing. Though if I could find the darn winamp 2.x plugin on the plugins page..that'd help too. =D

I think you are looking for GMLs for controlling winamp2 (they work perfectly fine for winamp5). Look on the Exported Groups page. Most of these groups use windows messages to communicate with winamp, this is a lot more reliable than sending keys and allow you to do quite a bit more. I'm not sure if you can do what you want completely by using WM commands but you should be able to open the playlist window and switch songs without sending keys. Hope this helps.
