Serial Problems!

I have made a simple switch system after following this guide: Modasylum.com

I have tested the circuit and it works perfectly, I have installed girder and got as far as setting it up.

Once you have an event string and you click on "learn event" it asks me to "Enter the string EXACTLY as you want it learned" but what do I do now and how do I do it?

Hi Dan,

The eventstring is the name of the event that will trigger the command it is attached to.

What are you trying do?

Make sure you have a look at the online help and serial readme.txt file.

I'm eventually going to put a pc in my car to play music, dvds etc.

To give me some control over the system when the touch screen is closed I have used an old sony control stalk and modified it so that the buttons are used as in the guide above.

I want it to be able to open windows media player or a usb radio (when I find one), then there are the basic functions play, volume up/down skip track mute etc.

I have read the guides and just got more confused :-?
I have managed to get it to display when one of the buttons are press at hte bottom of the window but how do I tell it what button does what?
