Using NetRemote with JRMC for Music, Video, DVD, Photos

Is this feasibile? (subject heading)

I'd like to keep a simple setup by using just the one piece of software for all my media. Eventually I'd like to incorporate digital television as well but that will be a low priority right now.

I should have a new Dell X30i pda in the next few weeks. I've already downloaded Tonto to start working on the interface, but before I go too far down this path I'd really like to hear from anyone else using JRMC for all of these things, as opposed to using a whole bunch of different apps with Girder or something.

And slightly more elaborated: My kids' computers hasn't got any other software for multimedia. But you do need some kind of video filter (normally something comes with your mainboard or DVD ROM, and that will do as long as you're after ease of use, not optimal picture quality (which demands use of ZoomPlayer and WinDVD 5.0 or Elecard codec plus ffdshow, but that's a totally different ballgame)).

Of course there is little to beat JRMC when it comes to music but it's not considered to be the best application for DVD and Video. I use it for a few AVI files so not enough to give you constructive feedback. Maybe interact is the best place to ask that.

What I would say is that most people, when setting things up in the first place, tend to opt for a 'simple set up' and avoid apps like Girder. Then, when their simple set up is working nicely and they know how it all hangs together, they are ready to ditch it in favour of something that does everything they need in the best way possible. That's why people use Girder and DVD players like Zoom player. My advice to you is to think longer term and accept the fact that a simple set up will not seem quite so attractive once you get going. Girder, for example seems a bit daunting at first but I found that it was days rather than weeks for me to feel that I could comfortably find my way around and make it do what I want so well worth the initial effort. Months later you find that you can do really powerful stuff. Anyone who's used Girder would never be without it.

Well you guys have already talked me out of that idea I think I'll use JRMC just for Music and Photos and get dirty with Girder and either ZP, TT, or WinDVD for DVD. Any current fave?

DVD playback quality is very high on my list, so if there are any issues with JRMC in this regard I'll skip on it. Although I was under the impression that JRMC could hook in third party DVD software anyway?

The bigger picture is that I'm going for a dedicated HTPC driving a Front Projector via DVI. The aim is to controll it all via NetRemote of course.

I think ZP would be the player of choice. Especially since NR can talk directly to it. I also like TheaterTek which is easier to use.

Dump TT, by all means. Expensive and limiting. No integration with NetRemote, and you can't choose between different audio and video filters for DVD. Zoom is the way. You might want to look at my webpage, I have my setup of my HTPC there, all though I have a newer one now, the basics are the same. Same programs and graphics card, but instead of the AMD XP2600 it's a P4 3.0c @ 3.8 (I never fail to mention that this overclocking is on pure air cooling and 100 % stable, because I'm pretty proud of it!). And you say fron projection, do you mean digital or real front projection (CRT, of course, everything else is a weak copy in my eyes... :roll: )? Anyway, if you care about quality you need ZoomPlayer and ffdshow. Period! If you need subtitles, go for WinDVD 5, latest version, if you don't, you may want to look at the Elecard code, which the leading authority on ffdshow (Owen at the avsforum.com) says is the better one right now.

Has anyone used JRMC to view there photo albums? I tried messing with this a while ago, but it did not seem very clean. The GAC usage seems to be unstable for lots of photos, and the tree structure sees all other branches too.
I ended up using Xlobby on the main pc to display the photos and netremote with some basic arrows to control navigation.
Or has any one used some other good photo album software to display their photos?

I have recently started using ACDSee for my photos, controlled from my PPC via NR and Girder. It seems to work OK for me so far. I got an OEM version wof ACDSee 5 with some hardware and that is adequate for my needs. I have yet to see any point in upgrading to the current version 7.

FYI, I plan to make my current CCF and GML available this weekend on my site in case you want to have a look. But the one currently on my site does not have the photo stuff.
