Hi

Looking for a recommendation on which HP Ipaq to buy for Netremote. I use to have ipaq 5550, it worked OK with the Netremote until it packed up! but now I will be getting another HP Ipaq but don't know which one....

here are my choices...

HEWLETT PACKARD IPAQ HX4700
HEWLET PACKARD IPAQ HX 2490
HEWLETPACK IPAQ HX 2190
HEWLETT PACKARD IPAQ RX 1950

Can some one let me know which one would be the best choice to run netremote???

I would forget the 1950 and 2190 as neither have Wi-Wi built in and for me the whole point of NetRemote is to link to Girder via the Wi-Fi connection. In addition these are both 240 x 320 resolution which is quite restrictive. The is also the case with the 2490 (i.e. small screen resolution). This leaves you with the 4700 which co-incedentally is the one I have. It is a great product (624MHz processor, full 480 x 640 screen and built in wifi) and has everything that you need. It is running Net Remote v2 and works a treat. You can pick them up new for about £350 and on eBay for around £250 although you might get a bargain.

Anothere device I do hear talked about a lot are the Dell Axim PDA's - they seem to offer good bang for your bucks and are compatiable with NR.

Hope that helps.

I strongly recommend the Dell Axim x51v.

I have dell X30 and I do like DELL but my new PDA is a replacement for my faulty ipaq 5550 so I have to get one available at PCWorld.

I like the 4700 but does this one have IR LED at the top??

Any reason why you can't use your Dell for NetRemote and use the iPaq as a normal PDA?

I use Dell in my bedroom and need another PDA for Netremote in my lounge so I have ordered hx2790 so lets see how it will compare to Dell...

I have hx4700, the ir strength is great but transmitter is placed at the bottom of the pda. Its not a problem because i found a little free program called Rotate_180 which i can press a button in NR to flip the screen.

And VGA is the way to go!

I am busy creating all my remote controls on the IPAQ 4700 as it is reliable and has a great screen (640 x 480) and a reasonably fast processor (624mHz). I do not reply on the infra red as it is hooked into the network via wireless. This is so much better and is not prone to the inadaquacies of infrared (especially with the weak signal on a PDA).

Cheers
