Because of the bad receive I had with my receiver on the back of my pc I deceided to buy a COM-cable to place the receiver on a more reachable place. I have a 2 meter COM-cable between the COMport and receiver now, but Girder doesn't react anymore on my actions. When I place the receiver direcly in my pc (without cable) it all works fine. Though it should be possible to receive signals with 2 extra meters of cable. Does anybody know what could be the problem?

hi,

my guess is that you own an Igorplug serial device.

the best way to extend the distance between the IR-sensor and the PC is to extend the cable between the rest of the Receiver unit and the IR-sensor using 4 lead telephone cable (BTW only leads are needed)

I have extended to about 20 meters of cable between my sensor and the pc without any problems.

hope this helps ;)

I have something like this as receiver: http://www.cesko.host.sk/images/girderphysical1.jpg. So you mean I have to cut the three tiny irons between the IR and the reciever and just solder some wires between it? Could you give an example of a cable which I could use for this?

Btw I see you are from the Netherlands too, like me :p I will keep talking English however, that's nicer for the other forumusers ;).

Hi,

Just as I guessed ;)

and yes, just desolder the three leads and solder a cable in between, but don't forget how they were connected!! As I wrote before, 4 lead telephone cable would do nicely and can be found in your local DIY store.

I modified one of these: http://wwwcs.upb.de/cs/ag-domik/redmer/ir-ben_de/handicraft.jpg

from 1.5 meters to around 20 meters.

bi-lingual that's service huh ;)

Thanks! With my very bad solderskills and bad equipment I managed to get a 2 meters long phone cable between the IR and receiver. It works fine! Thanks! I spend 4 euros for a COMcable but whatever, maybe I can use it for something else ;) .
