I want to buy a new PDA only to run netremote. It will run over WIFI, so I am not concerned about IR. What is important is fast response time, clear screen and good battery life. Also it needs to look like a quality item as it will be sitting in our lounge room. What do you think is the best PDA for this purpose.
thank you.

If you are interested, I have (3) Axim x51v and (1) Axim x50v that I am looking to part ways with. If you would like 1 or more let me know. I have only used them lightly for about 5 months. I will sell them at $225 a piece.

I am selling them because I am going from 4 pda controls to 2 strategically located wall panels. I would consider shipping to AU, I will PM you.

I could be interested in a unit too!

I'm also in Australia, Mark where are you located? I'm in Sydney.

Just one question, the Axims are 802.11b, if the rest of my network is 802.11g does everything slow down to .11b speed all the time or only while the Amin is being used with Netremote?

Cheers
Richard

In my experience, no it does not slow down the rest of the wireless network.

Hi Richard,
I live in Melbourne. But I think it may make postage much cheaper if we had them posted to one of us and then we forwarded it to the other.

Toml0006,
Can you please send me the price when you have worked it out. I could be interested in 2.
thanks
Mark

If you want the PPC just to run NR, you should consider the size of your screen, i wouldnt trade my 640X480 for anything.

That sounds good to me, if it works out cheaper.

Toml0006,
I'm interested in the other 2 if the wife agrees!
What's the difference beween the x50v and x51v?

Sorry for the late reply (out of town). The x50v and the x51v are the exact same hardware-wise (640x480 screen etc...) but the x50v runs Windows mobile 2003 where the x51v runs Windows mobile 5.

I'm very happy with an HP iPaq HX4700. It's been discontinued but still considered as one of the best PDAs out there. Very bright screen with rich colours, great wifi/bluetooth connectivity and 624MHz CPU.

No Windows Mobile = No NetRemote :(.

I know, I was looking at the Nokia 770, 800 for use as a remote. It looks like the perfect form factor for a theater remote. I have an ELO touch 15" and it just too big so that went to the bar room for jukebox and video use. The 770 looks perfect for a theater. Currently looking at x50v and 51v as well as the iPaq 4700. I would like something along the lines of 800 x 450 resolution. Anything out there?

Something like a UMPC e.g. the Samsung Q1 would probably be ideal.

No doubt! I would like to keep it in the $200 range though ;-)

Which is a better pocket PC - the Dell Axim x51v or the iPaq hx4700? They both have a similar processor.

I am currently using a iPaq rx1950. Will I notice a significant speed improvement? Will graphics (i.e. album covers) load faster?

For speed you will be better off with a PDA with a smaller screen as there are fewer pixels to move.

Would a tablet pc be faster? If so, which tablet would you recommend? On ebay you can pick up a FUJITSU STYLISTIC 3400 TABLET PC for very little $. How would this tablet compare to a pocket pc? Would it take a long time to start up?

Almost certainly faster yes, one of the UMPCs would be worth a look, but they're quite expensive. I have no specific recommendations on a tablet PC, hopefully others can contribute suggestions.
