View Full Version : Girder and Home Security

So, after a couple years of using BeyondTV, I've switched to SageTV. I played around with Girder once and a lot of people apparently use it to control SageTV. I'm looking at adding Girder to control a few lights, but what I really want is to use it with a home security system. My house is pre-wired for door contacts, smoke/heat detectors, etc., and I have not done anything with it yet. Ideally, I'd like to find a security system that I can hard wire the stuff into, but the control is really software on the PC/network side. I might through in a camera or two, perhaps some audio, but my primary concern is the hardwired doors and smoke/heat detectors. I'd like to be able to connect remotely to see what's going on (I have VPN access to my home, I'm a network engineer).

Like other sites, for a noob there is a lot of info to sort through that I have not been able to make heads nor tails out of. I have spent several hours reading and not really getting anywhere and have not found anything that does what I want. Closest thing I've found is IRCAS. Can someone point me in the general direction, perhaps a hint at the base products I'd have to buy to work with Girder, etc? I used to install security systems about 17 years ago so I know the basics to get started as far as how it works. I just can't find what I envision.

Thanks in advance.

I am in the process of putting together an Elk system. Its widely popular among home automation people and there is a Girder plugin for it.
