View Full Version : List of small tablets for NetRemote

Im not a big fan of the pda's for remotes, so originally went down the internet tablet route.

Originally I started out with the Nokia 770 running RDC to my file server (its on 24/7 so was perfect) but after both me and a neighbour getting wireless n networks, it turns out that the 770 won't search for networks when a wireless n network is present, so that's out the window now.

I have been looking into new tablets which I could use, and looking for some help on any potential models which would work. And are cheap!

I have found a fair few, but all cost silly money. Idealy want something under 200 second hand.

I did buy a oqo model 01, but then found out they are not actually touch screens, which is a big disappointment and waste of time and money!

Anyway the list I am slowly forming:

Nokia N770, 800, 810 (Running RDP)
Samsung Q1
Asus R2E
Fujitsu U810
Sony Vaio UX58GN, UX1

Check out the ADVENT ADV3500PC GPS NAVIGATION 7" TOUCH SCREEN PC. Buy.com had them but recently sold out but they are on Ebay also. Runs WinXP and Netremote very well.

Check out my showcase for a picture.

Added to the list

Looks really good that does. Wouldn't mind one of them.

How much roughly do they usually go for 2nd hand if you know?

They just showed up on the scene... so not seen any used ones... they sold for $1500 US new when they came out so $300 is a bargain for a full PC in that form factor. Many Cocoontech guys bought them in the past few weeks.

John -

How sturdy is the 3500? I'm thinking that if it's sturdy enough, I might mount one on my motorcycle. It would be fun to develop an NR front end for motorcycle use!

It looks like it is built pretty well. It is designed to be used in a car

Added Sony Vaio UX58GN, UX1

Really want one of these due to the smaller screen :)

Bit pricey though!

I got delivery of my oqo purchased in thinking it was a touchscreen

Besides the 770 (which i seem to have no end of problems with on the wlan) it is alot thicker but just the fact it runs windows makes it much more convenient

Yea, really do like the sony, besides the kind of techno look

Do you get docks for the samsung q1?

I like simple units like the 770

Thinking now maybe I should just go for a new N810 as the 770 won't work anymore due to the presence of a wireless n network.
