I recently purchased a Kindle Fire (refurb for $169) and using a free RDP application I now have Now Playing accessible. This 7" display is a nice size screen. It is very bright and responsive. When I get time I will create a custom skin for the Kindle Fire but for now the Droid skin looks fine.

I started working on a new skin for my Kindle Fire. Here is the Home page.

Totally awesome (as usual) John!!!
Can you please describe the "free RDP application" you use to link to NR? TIA.

RDP stands for Remote Desktop Program. It has been around for a long time and will allow you to log into a Windows PC (OS has to support RDP) and let you control the computer as if you were sitting at the console.

The application I mentioned is available for free in the Amazon Market. You set it up to point to a Windows XP Pro or better machine (IP, name and password) running your NR skin. You can set it for full screen mode so your skin will take up the entire screen. Name the configuration then just tap the 2X icon in the bookcase or carousel and then tap the config name you chose. It will then log in very quick and you will have the skin on the screen instantly. Taping the screen works like any native touchscreen running NR.

I have used this for my Nokia 770 Tablet for years. It is one way to use modern tablets since Netremote client will not run directly on them. The downside is that you need a PC to log into. I happen to use my SageTV server and the Windows XP Pro multilogin hack. Since this server is on all the time anyways it is easy to use for this.

So this same method could be used for an Ipad, Galaxy tablet or any tablet that has a good RDP application (they are not all created equal).

I upgraded my phone to a Droid Razr Maxx and with the bigger screen size I am now running my Kindle Fire skin on it using the 2X RDP app. It works very well and with its extra capacity battery it is now practical to use it around the house. I have taken my ELO 15" touchscreen offline as I use the Kindle Fire most of the time now. You would never know it is not running natively it is that responsive. To be honest it is better than any PPC or other tablet I have ever run Now Playing on.

So even though the earth didn't end in 2012 it looks like Netremote's future has but you can still use it on Android and I suspect iPhone as well with the right RDP app. I will use it this way as I have yet to find anything better than Netremote. I own Elve Pro and Homeseer as well and they just can't replicate Now Playing.
