View Full Version : Transport - TCP server

I'm slowly migrating my setup from girder 5 to 6, one of the last pieces is a tcp server I'm using with irule to trigger events and provide feedback. My code in G5 is based on this post: http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?21338-Howto-DemoPad-to-Girder

I see there is no GIPLISTEN transport type in G6, is it planned for later? What would be the best way to approach this? I don't believe I can use web sockets for this, but please correct me if I'm wrong! I could use http only but then I lose the ability to send feedback to the handsets from girder without polling from the client side.

I am not totally sure as I am not fully up on the new transport plug in but I think the g6 transport will do what you need unfortunately I am not up on it enough to tell you exactly what to change. If I can get my laptop to behave I will have a better look at it and see what I can Come up with.

GIPLISTEN has not been added (yet?). Currently two options in G6:

* Use Lua Sockets
* Use the HTTP server

Would either of those work?

I've read a little on Lua Sockets, it seems like it would do the trick. If GIPLISTEN is going to be added I would prefer to wait for that, otherwise I can take a stab at writing it with Lua Sockets.

The HTTP Server isn't ideal because I lose the ability to push messages to all connected clients without polling. It's a minor detail but I've come to rely on it.
