View Full Version : Upgrading from G4 to G6, getting USB-UIRT working?

Hi,

I've been using Girder 4 for quite a while. I have it controlling a USB-UIRT by voice command (Dragon NaturallySpeaking). I'm setting up a new computer and have upgraded to Girder 6, however on copying my GML file over I can't get the same voice commands to control the UIRT.

The way I was controlling it in G4 was:

Custom voice command with NaturallySpeaking (e.g. "television power") which was programmed to run the executable "event.exe" with the arguments "television.power -silent". That triggered an action in Girder that has a girder event named "television.power" which tells the UIRT to send out the programmed signal to power the TV on off.

My new installation of Girder 6 doesn't seem to have an event.exe file, has it been replaced with something else that I should be using? I've tried using csevent.exe but that doesn't seem to fix it. The USB-UIRT plug-in is ticked in settings and also enabled in the list of devices.

Hopefully there's a way to get it working without changing all the commands or having to reprogram all of the IR codes?

Thanks, Tom

Hey Tom,

event.exe was replaced by csevent.exe. You can find the details on how to use it in the manual under "Sending Events to Girder"

csevent 127.0.0.1 1024 girder hello 18

127.0.0.1 is the local host ip address
1024 is the port number
girder is the password.

hello is the eventstring
18 is the event device

Have got the events being picked up by Girder now, thanks for that.

Some of the IR codes are working and some are not. For example the old CCF code for television power wouldn't work and looked like this:

05B8614021081808000800000800800000A20AA28A00000000

And when I ran the code learning again it looked like this:

0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0041 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0011 0010 0031 0010 0AD8

Would that be some conversion that I could perform on all of the non-working CCF codes, or will they need to all be reprogrammed?

Also in Girder 4 I used "set resolution" actions to change the monitor resolution, can't see that in G6, is there another way to accomplish it?

Cheers.

Edit: doesn't matter about the IR codes now, I've redone them all manually.

Sorry about the missing set resolution functions. I'll work on including them in G6...

That would be good thanks Ron.

I ended up using a free program DisplayChanger to achieve the monitor resolution changes.

However I'm having a new problem with events not getting through to Girder. I'm trying to create a new post about it which includes a YouTube link showing the problem, but I need a minimum of 10 posts to be able to post the link.

Only one more post to go to be able to post the link..

This should do it!
