I'm using a no-name IRDA port plug in USB on my computer.
Can I use Girder with it and how??

No, Girder will not work with IRDA. You will need a consumer IR receiver.

Sure, IRDA is for cell phone, pocket pcs etc to talk to each other. Very short range. Consumer IR is for longer distance device control. They work on different frequencies. Some people have been able to get IRDA devices to work with Consumer IR but they are generally unreliable and work < 6 feet.
